I honestly don't know why a team would let a player of this caliber walk for free. I mean read the quotes from other NHL players. Nobody wants to match up against him.

Completely disrespected by his GM and some fans. A french speaking player, playing for his hometown team just walks because the GM refused to call his agent back and sign Mike freaking' Hoffman, and Savard!! Danault would be their 2nd best scorer right now only 4 pts behind Suzuki.

Early, but if he continues his play he will get Selke votes.

Bonus that it's funny as hell watching opponents dodge not one, but two kings lines

Keefe was having an aneurysm trying to get Matthews out there with Kupari (only to watch Kupari play him well) or Lizotte and away from Kopitar/Danault

Edit: yep poor Marner, thanks to Matthews, Marner spent almost ALL his time against Kopitar and Danault and got railroaded all night :

Danault is definitely Blake's best UFA signing so far. The only thing I was concerned about with Blake and Co. was their ability to find driven leaders and that is exactly what this guy is. I am really enjoying how infectious his positive personality has become for this team. Other players have definitely noticed. It is a joy to watch PD and AI play together.

Former Canadien Danault feeling happy and appreciated with Kings

Habs fan coming in peace here. I'm just tremendously happy to see Danault succeed with the Kings.
Yes the Habs let him walk for free but it was pretty obvious Danault wanted to try something new, I doubt he would've signed here as an UFA anyways. Being a french canadian in Habs land can be hard, people have huge expectations.
I'm leaving now, I wish Danault 3 goals against us tonight!

You are now my favorite Habs fan.

I will work on a gift box for you

Danault might be the Kings best ever UFA signing.
The bar was set pretty low with Kovalchuk, Russ Courtnall, Simon Gagne, and Duschene

He's doing exactly what was expected by proponents of the signing:

- Making it easier on Kopitar
- Elite D
- 50 point pace with a huge majority of the points being at ES

Cue Dennis Green: He is who we thought he was.

Props to @piston for being so high on him going into free agency. Dude deserves to take a 12-game-in victory lap.

He didn't come to LA for second place. Who still remembers that commercial? And damn right he didn't! Hell he got his 2nd Cup before Sid did.

I'm still amazed that a player that was my first choice UFA target in Danault was actually signed by the Kings. That never happens.

Scuderi came for the money, end of story. Nobody was offering him what Lombardi coughed up.

Hey guys! Just passing by to say good luck for tonight's game. I hope Danault keeps doing as well as he seems to be doing in LA. The guy seems to be a genuinely nice guy and always works hard, never ever takes anything for granted. I truly believe that you win with such players. A vocal part of the Habs board wanted him gone and won't admit that his departure hurt the team, but I like to believe that the silent majority is pulling for him.

Anyway, cheers guys! Enjoy Danault, the best is yet to come!
