LA KINGS 2023/4 Regular season discussion

Random thought; it's hilarious how quickly the Kings went right back to the make trades to fix all the glaring holes no matter the cost Dave Taylor approach to building a team after Lombardi was fired.
Are you drinking at 4:30 in the morning? Very few similarities between Taylor and Blake's regime.

Well the guys that are in charge now were the star players under Taylor so not much of a surprise. They're all drinking from the same bottle of bleach.

Talbots gotta go in net tomorrow night right?

Maybe, given the 'reasonable choices' bender TM appears to be on early this season

If this were the end of last year i'd probably expect Portillo in net and Copley at 3RD to keep Clarke out of the lineup

Most of Lombardi's moves after the summer of 2014 fall into this category too.

No argument here. The difference of course being the team was coming off 2 Cups in 3 years and still had a very clear core and cup window.
Dude, what point are you trying to make, just let it out. Yes, we understand the team is not being built the way that you would do it. When you get your own NHL franchise, you can school everyone else with your success.

Someone's meds have run out. Did you forget where you are -- a fan internet message board meant for discussing such things?!?! Maybe you should head back to Starbucks to hang with the soccer moms while the kids are in school

We had a .915 goaltender (Korpi) last year -- how'd that end up? I wouldn't consider the Kings last year "virtually unbeatable". I'm not sure why/how that would change. There is A LOT more that goes into a team and winning big than simply "getting a .915 goalie".
.915 vs the league is .450 against Mcdavid and Draiwinal.

Best way to limit goals against against the oilers is limiting their offensive zone time and shot volume. Also have to keep them off the rush during transition those two killed us off transitional play.

What discussion do you want, Axl? No more gotchas. Just tell us how we can make this place perfect for you. Tell us exactly what you want to hear so we can say only that. All you ever do is point out how bad everyone else is at posting and how their opinions are incorrect, so please enlighten us.

How about ANYTHING that doesn't revolve around hindsight bias...that would be a great start and really awesome. Thx.

Perfect, thanks, that was a big help.

Boy, I’m so excited for our next game. Rob Blake, general manager for the Los Angeles Kings, has really done a fantastic job constructing this team. All of our favorite hockey players worked really hard this offseason. I hope they continue to work hard and try their best, but what really matters is that everyone has fun.

Hope everyone has a blessed day!

But when we point out future problems and concerns, we're told to wait and see. Or we're told to put our XBox controllers away. Or that since we aren't a coach or GM, our opinion is invalid.

So really, it's don't look at things in hindsight and don't call out future expected problems? In other words, just celebrate the Kings as a flawless entity?

Hey KP! Glad you finally get it! Happy to have you on board <3

Blake is a god on the Kings subreddit. I got downvoted to hell for pointing out that trading Quick was pointless from a cap perspective
Was it though? I honestly don't remember, but how would the Kings bring in Gavrikov and Korpisalo without shedding cap space at the time?

And you wanted to keep Quick and send him down to Ontario? I don't get it....

Curious which version of goaltending shows up tonight. Which is the biggest problem and the fact that Blake made all of these other over the top moves is maddening. IMO your not winning with inconsistent goaltending especially against the Oilers.

Blake is hoping that we catch them when one of these red tag specials is hot. But what happens next round!

I totally understand especially from 12 and 14 that to win a cup everything has to come together and gel primarily from development and at the same time magically. That seems way easier with a bottom 6 or defensive depth which can be done with a system.

Making chicken soup out of chicken shit goaltending is nothing short of wishing.

You know what was great about last season’s playoffs? There was not a peep from you know who. Now thinking about it he might have been suspended lol.
All 10 days of it? lol

So which goaltender did you think Blake should of added to his shopping list?

Goaltending is easily the most enigmatic position in the league. It is ironic that Jets fans are complaining about their start and their goaltending behind Hellebuyck as well right after signing him for an eternity at $8.5M and the Kings are sitting at a better GA albeit only 3 games in.

Ultimately, it is a mixed bag and you just need someone back there you can rely on to at least be sharp enough to make the best attempts at every shot against. If Talbot can maintain his play then it would buy us more time to find a solution, but I am hoping that he is not it regardless. Seems like a good dude and there are things I like about his game that are noticeably better than most goalies we've had recently, but he just isn't the guy you want to rely on in a playoff series against Edmonton or Vegas, and that really is the question Kings brass needs to be asking themselves every single day.

He already f***ed it up with poor development, the wrong picks, the wrong extensions, and the wrong coaching staff.

We are not winning it all with this groups.

While it will never happen.

Sell off mid aged guys and start over. Keep vets for mentorship. Keep the youth to try and build off of.

Fire Blake, Luc, and the entire coaching staff. Keep half the scouting staff and find a real builder in the mold of Lombardi!

Not the answer we all want to hear but that’s my honest opinion.
