There were many people on this forum who were saying this the entire time. Saying how stupid it was to try and win a championship with players as old as Kopitar and Doughty being the center pieces. How this "reload", "rebuild on the fly", "contend and develop" nonsense had never been done successfully anywhere else in the league. Of course none of the people who said that were ever star players for the Kings on the ice, so what do they know?

Again, this would be what the foundation of LA Kings team traditionally developed would look like right now had the team not ended their rebuild in the summer of 2021.

Kopitar - 36
Kempe - 27
Moore - 28
Byfield - 21
Vilardi - 24
Kupari - 23
Kaliyev - 22
Laferriere - 22

Faber - 21
Clarke - 20
Spence - 22
Anderson - 24
Durzi - 25

Top 10 pick in 2022
Top 10 pick in 2023
Multiple high picks/prospects for Doughty (would have been more in 2019 obv)
1st at last years deadline for Roy.
1st at 2022 deadline for Iafallo

Even with the disasters that the 2018 and 2019 drafts ended up being for the Kings, they would have been out of it or very close to being out of the rebuild. Ready to make this generations Mike Richards trade.

Just sad to think what could have been had one different decision been made, but instead we will likely have to have a new GM come in here and just completely gut everything and start over. This is not going to be easy and will take time, old players on big contracts, no young superstar like we had with Kopi the last rebuild, the PLD albatross, no goaltending depth.
Easily coudve been in the Bedard lottery.. any of those top 3 wouldve been huge from last years draft

I don't think coaches or management face tough questions in most hockey markets in the NHL.

Only handful do from what I've seen.

Raccoon Jesus called out on Kings talk, Westcoast Bias’ tweet and the Doughty response mentioned on 31 thoughts and Spittin Chicklets and Caryln Bathe coming for Russell on Twitter.

What a a world….
This stuff actually happened?

I'm disappointed I'm not up on the drama. It's the most interesting thing going on around the Kings right now.

I thought @Raccoon Jesus was being overly dramatic when he called the Oilers passing the Kings in the standings by the end of January. Seemed like a very far fetched claim at the time, a near impossibility. Looks like they'll do it with time to spare.

Still hockey to be played before it happens but seems like a formality at this point.
Seattle and Calgary not far behind

Yup, in about a week or two the Kings will fall out of a playoff spot even after beating the Sharks. The win against the Canes and the one they should get against the Sharks, only prolongs Coach Charmin Clueless from being fired. Kings are my 2nd team to the Caps, yet I am so frustrated in how badly coached/misguided this roster is.

Few of us called it because it would be dumb to assume a team with McDavid underperforming so bad wouldn’t be in line to have a big turn around. They had an insane win streak to end last season as well. And underestimating the Kings ability to suck is something one should never rule out.

In hindsight, I would have done a complete rebuild, moved Doughty (he did not want to be part of it), Kopitar would have stayed like Getzlaf did and retire a King, and the Kings could have kept Faber, Vilardi, and all the wasted draft picks.

It would have been a painful few years - I know those two 1st round exists are so valuable to this franchise. But in the end, would have been for the best. Kings could have possible landed a lottery pick and top D man or forward to go with Clarke, Byfield, etc.
The butterfly fly effect means different results, different draft picks and therefore a better or worse team. An absolute certainty we have a very different list of prospects. Things happen and we can react to them but we cannot say for certain how things that did not happen will have turned out. So maybe we keep Gabe (I wanted to) but instead of going on a tear he gets a career ending injury in game 1. Then we’d complain that Blake never moved an ‘injury prone‘ player. Etc regarding every move. That doesn’t means we can’t or shouldn’t complain about seemingly poor decisions of course but personally it’s the big picture issues I worry about.

Coaching - I feel a change is needed; I have nothing new on the subject. I’d be delighted though if he turns it around. I think part of the PLD thing is that he doesn’t know how to get the best from him (yet).
Cap inflexibility
Roster balance - Biggest irritation right now is the Clarke/Spence thing. I’d trade Roy who has had his value go up along side Gavrikov (he was mediocre before that trade and currently better but overrated). Packaged with someone ‘like’ AK he could help address other roster/draft pick issues.

Hell I said the Kings would fall into a wildcard by the end of jan and I was nearly roasted off the forum

They're gonna be out of a playoff spot barely halfway thru the month

Tim, KingsTalk needs you, please call in and let them know

So apparently I missed something regarding Carrlyn and twitter. I don't have time to go through the entire game thread, so can anyone fill me in on what happened with her? Did she say something derogatory towards the fans?

She backed up Doughty's misplaced tweet with a note essentially telling fans to settle down.

There is next to critical local media, and the most visible bloggers are quick to support management. Online venues such as here and the cesspool of Twitter/X are the ONLY places for fans to voice their frustrations and disappointment with this regime - a team representative has absolutely no business telling fans to calm down in these places, especially in the condescending tone she used. It was a mistake that frankly should have consequences.

Those who represent the Kings just need to bite their tongues (fingers) in situations like these and take one for the team.

I might be in the minority here, but if they fall too far out of a playoff spot by the deadline, I would rather them do a fire-sale and do a real rebuild. Keep the young guys, but move on from the veterans.

With Kopitars decline, they don't have a #1 center. Don't get me wrong, Kopitar is my favorite King of all time, but you can't expect a guy who will be 37 (Crosby being the exception to the rule) next year to be able to be the number 1 guy on a team trying to compete for the cup. Unless Byfield is truly ready to take over that #1 center spot, they are in trouble.

Doughty is in his mid-30's, and is leading the league in TOI. That isn't going to be sustainable for the entire season, especially come playoff time (if they manage to get into the playoffs).

There is obviously still a lot of hockey to be played, and things could change, but right now they look like they will be lucky to make the playoffs. And if they do make the playoffs, they have the look of another 1st round exit.

Dang, I've really been out of the loop the last few weeks. I didn't even know that DD was shooting off his mouth, although it doesn't surprise me. This team deserves criticism right now. Plain and simple. How many blown leads does this team have this year? The players, coaching, and management need to be held accountable.

Well just so we’re clear Rosen and Hammond didn’t last long as a part of the organization. They were pretty critical of the Kings. Maybe it’s not vocalized but I don’t think that’s a coincidence. It also doesn’t come as a shock that no one asks anyone tough questions

I hope when Blake does his Q and A, someone ask" WTF is going on Rob...THIS TEAM IS A HOT MESS!"

once again, and for so many years, watching the kings season unfold is the same as watching a slow motion train wreck.
once seeing the two championships as a result of the franchise being run and managed in a professional manner, its ruined the kings franchise's reputation as a retirement home/siberia for failed hockey lifers. even worse its educated fans from a traditional non hockey market and caused fans not to accept mediocrity/poor performance as an ongoing result. as ive written so many times these idiots have got us into the perfect black hole- few picks, cap strapped with overage and weak performing players.
im not sure i want to waste the next ten years supporting this weak attempt at competetiveness.
does AEG really want to win another championship? the'll not do it with this management regime.
