Weber and Howard were 2nd rounders in 2003 too tho.

You can add in Loui Eriksson, Patrice Bergeron, David Backes, Kevin Klein, Matt Carle, & Corey Crawford were also taken in the 2nd round of that draft. It's about scouting and development.

Just a summary of number of picks and transactions:

2006 = 9 picks used / 6 draft related transactions
2007 = 10 / 6
2008 = 9 / 14
2009 = 10 / 6
2010 = 5 / 8
2011 = 6 / 2
2012 = 6 / 5
2013 = 10 / 5 (so far)

Note: a particular transaction counts only once, even though it may include draft picks used in subsequent years

Not hard to see the pattern.

Tfp says that Dean and Hextall are being talked to a good amount.
 
Just want to throw out there that Martinez, Ellerby, Clifford, King and Nolan should not be tossed aside to easily. Clifford was improved last year, Ellerby needs work and the others did fall off some last year. Give these guys a chance to bounce back and continue to improve. These inexpensive bottom third of the roster guys are important. Especially the big bodies.
 
Final pre draft posting/

Word is we are about to make a deal to move up in the draft with either the Fliers or Pens.

Sabres have been asking a ton for Forbort, no deal is what I heard.

We are asking about what it would take to get Krieder out of NY.

Lots of sudden talks but nothing has happened yet.

Should be a fun one.
 
Poor New Jersey, fans. I feel so bad for them and their three Cups.

After every single NJ fan on HF scoffed at the idea of Kovalchuk choosing to sign in LA, beating them in the Finals was the sweetest thing ever. Then their captain skipped town and now they're struggling to even make the playoffs with the very same Kovalchuk as a financial albatross.

Wow, if we could get Krieder out of NY that would be a coup, even with his struggles last year. Kid can play. And he's a LW, yeah?

Thanks for the update! Appreciated. Would be awesome to move up and great to hear Forbort is coveted. Getting Kreider would be great.
