Speculation: LA hiring Jim Hiller?

Because professional sports franchises are vast and complex institutions with multiple departments and moving pieces that all have to coordinate and collaborate even on something as seemingly simple and innocuous as a a press release or a tweet.

EDIT: Also I have no idea if it's even true so as unlikely as it may be... there's always that possibility

Adjusted thread title.

I can't imagine it falls thru but thus far I havent' seen official confirmation so most of the discussion has been confined to the 'season' thread

but if rumors are true, I love it as I mentioned elsewhere.

Does he have any hockey experience? :sarcasm:

If true, this could be the biggest signing of the offseason. Improving our special teams last season to even league-average levels, with everything else remaining roughly the same, would have put us into near-elite territory. Add an elite winger and more prospect growth into the mix and we might actually win a playoff round soon.

Another nice wrinkle to Hiller's experience is that he is used to having all left-handed shots on his PP units, which is what Detroit iced when he was running their PP. The Kings are in a similar situation, but at least the point shots have some right-handed options with Doughty and Durzi (and possibly Walker).

I hate to pee on everyone's cheerios, but my friend who is Islander fan said he was beyond horrible as their PP coach

well

He was hired in Summer 2019....in 2019, the Isles PP was 29th.
in 2020...the Isles PP was 24th.
in 2021...the isles PP was 20th.
in 2022...the Isles PP was 12th.

pretty good considering their all-around GF fell under ours.

To add--

his one season in Detroit, the Wings PP was 2nd after finishing the previous season in 18th

That season, Toronto was 26th...then Hiller arrived
2016--29th
2017--2nd
2018--2nd
2019--8th

The guy has succeeded with high-talent and medium-talent teams...what a f***ing hire.

If we see different personnel out there, then we know it's truly Hiller's powerplay. If we see the same ol' 5 out there, minus Dustin Brown, then TMc is influencing it. Brown had 3 PP points last season and played 2:05 minutes per game on it. Iafallo was just a little better with 40 seconds more TOI per game. IA should not be on the powerplay. He's not a shooter or a passer and that's what you need on the unit.
