Speculation: Kypreos: Oilers interested in Binnington

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
This group has been very hot and cold for the past couple of years. Yes they have been playing well the last week or so. But it was a pretty rough stretch prior to that.
The Blues Point Percentage in the last 20 Games is .550, in the last 12 Games its .583, and in the last 10 games its .700.
They have been playing some pretty damn good hockey for nearly 2 months.

Blows my mind Skinner is still their starter. He sucks.
What options do we have? We don’t have the assets or the cap space to acquire someone… we’d have to spend resources to move him… we’d have to spend resources to replace him, we’d have to free up cap space to afford him.

Now look at all of the NTCs and the NMC that Edmonton has and come back with realistic options.

The Oilers could waive Janmark, Klingberg and Kapanen to create $0.5M in non LTIR cap space, enough for a $2M goalie with 75% retention. That could be as much as $4.6M if S. Skinner was going the other way, or $3M if it was Pickard.

There, solved. Your water carrying for management is BTFO.

If its so easy peasy they would have done it…

Just to be clear, your easy solution is to:

A. waive 3 players and move them to the minors or hope someone takes them…
B. Attach an asset or two to Skinner or Pickard to move them.
C. Send assets to two different teams to get retention on a new goalie at 75%.

Stauffer said Oilers aren't upgrading in net. He is a lot more plugged in than Kypreos who makes this shit up for clicks and views
Sure he is, he entrusted with those informations because he stay in line with whatever message the organization wants him to tell.

I believe it's a tell. He was relentlessly beating the drums on how Skinner is an exceptional goalie until last week. I think it show the management has just realized (way too late imo) that they where wrong.

that is what happens when you pay a handful of guys too much, it leaves the club handcuffed with shitty players at various positions. Binnington would make the oilers a much better team not doubt. The blues would have to take a shitty contract back, not sure they will.

seems to me that the blues would not ever have a better opportunity to sell high on him, they should trade him and run with Hofer.

Not saying it's this deadline or over the summer, but something will happen with a goalie in St. Louis. I don't even know if it'll be Binnington, Hofer, or Ellis. Colten Ellis is quickly turning into a Ben Bishop situation where we are running out of time and need to make a decision on his future. He looked like a failed prospect, but last season and this season he's been dominant.

I’m not saying inept mistakes weren’t made. They made their bed… but acting like getting out of this current situation is super easy is asinine at best…

And all those shitty contracts have NTCs and NMCs attached to them.

I am surprised the Oilers FO would even speak to the Blues after the offer sheet fiasco.
Ignoring a possible upgrade because another team went with a business decision is a terrible way to run an organization… then again so is attaching NMCs to over half your starting lineup.

nobody is acting or suggesting it will be easy to get out of the situation they are in...

IMO the oilers will never win if they have the following contracts on the team at the same time:

McDavid
Drai
Nurse
Skinner
Kane

Something has to give...

Stan the man to the rescue, LOL.

Are the Blues considering moving Binnington though?
There’s been speculation. I don’t think it’s a trying to move situation but more so we aren’t locked into him long term and our compete window isn’t for another year or two.

We are not going to trade for a goalie, and then the Kings are finally going to bounce us in Round 1 with some timely scoring from Warren Foegele, bad Skinner, and a complete lack of secondary scoring.
