Yeah, that's the first part i was like huh? He sounds feminine and acts like it? What the f*** does that have to do with anything, just sounds like some weird narrative OP is pushing.
I haven't listened but a lot of players sound like frat bros or jocks. Someone with a cadence that is unusual would stick out.

In wrestling, there's this big guy, Keith Lee, who looks like a real bruiser but sounds like he's reading Wuthering Heights for an audiobook or something. It's nothing that detracts, but it sticks out.

"effeminate pronunciation of words" is absolutely buckwild though any way you cut it

Yeah, but multiple star players in the league sound like they skipped puberty, but they're still star players, seems like a really weird thing to bring up.

And it was mostly about pronouncing words "effeminate", what the f*** does that mean?

For some reason a while go LinkedIn kept trying to connect me with him
Like he'd be one of my top 5 recommendations every time for like a year from 2016-2017 - I dunno why.
He worked for Telus for a while. My company worked with them on a project years back and he was our rep. I just checked, and yep, I'm still connected with him on LinkedIn.

Listen to the interview. It stands out. It's combination of Eastern Canadian/English/Lisp

Definitely not suggesting this. He has a wife and two kiddos. If I thought he was gay I would have said so. I just described his voice. If I described my own voice it would a Canadian/American southern drawl. Ignoring how different his voice and enunciation is would be odd.

I loved Wellwood for this exact reason. Obviously he could've been fantastic if he cared more, but some people just aren't that into hockey despite being incredibly talented. And that's fine.

I see what you're saying. Next time I'd pick a word other than effeminate, though

100 points in 57 games in his final OHL season. Saw that translate to the AHL with a 55 point rookie season, followed up by 87 points in 80 games (which was 4th in the AHL during the lockout season, which had young NHLers like Spezza, Staal, etc in it). Saw that translate to the NHL with a 45 point rookie season and then 42 points in 48 games in his sophomore season (~72 point pace).

I remember watching him, he was super skilled, and he seemed primed based on the above trajectory to become a ~60-70 point centre ... And then... He was mostly a <30 point player after that, and was out of the league by age 30.

Not at all surprised to hear about his laid back attitude, lack of interest in the game, interest in partying, etc. In terms of careers that could have gone MUCH better with more dedication, he's a Leafs example of wasted potential that I think about.

I remember him from the early Jets days but that's a name I was not expecting to see on the front page.

Sounds like you guys are the ones with the problem.
I will listen and I'm sure I'll hear what you're saying but I'm equally as sure I won't describe it as effeminate pronunciation for I do not think that exists
Didn't realize the board was sensitive enough to not allow for a description of a voice to the point of denial.

He definitely eludes to how much he left on the table in his career not being as dedicated as he could have been. He also doesn't sound like he regrets the choices he made. It's a pretty refreshing and honest point of view about a player I always wondered why didn't get more opportunities.

He mentions that Paul Maurice really tried to give him opportunity in Toronto playing with Mats, but after a number of groin injuries/surgeries was non-compliant in his rehab resulting in less and less opportunity.

It's nice when players are up front in interviews. Obviously you can't be 100% honest when you're An a active player but plenty of the old guard hold back a lot of stuff in interviews.

Next time I will ignore it like it's a totally regular hockey playing man's voice and not distinguishable in tone, pitch, or enunciation. I am just realizing effeminate is now considered derogatory. I can only guess that the woman I used to powerlifting with, who had a gruff, raspy, masculine voice cannot be described that way either(yes she used testosterone and steroids and her name was Mary.)

All they did was ask why it was relevant. Doesn't seem very sensitive.

Calling everyone sensitive for asking? Definitely sensitive.

Effeminate has no negative connotation if you don't give it one yourself, although yes I don't see what's relevant about it.

I really don't remember Wellwood at all to be honest, he was good at shootouts maybe?

It wouldn't surprise me the least if a number of players, after doing the same things for almost their entire life, lose their love for the sport itself. I've heard quite a few retired players say the thing they miss the most is not the sport itself, but the comradery and being part of a group.
