Shootouts are luck.
I agree because look at the 2016-17 season when Toronto went 1-8 compared to 2017-18 when they were 7-2.

Even in the 2018-19 season despite only being in two shootouts and going 0-2, you can say their 7-2 record one year before is major reason why they got those 105 points and 100 points the next season.

with the great Kadri trade, Colorado improved from beating a good team in the first round and losing in the 2nd round all the way to......beating a bad team in the first round and losing in the 2nd round.

What's this 2nd round thing you're talking about?

I would say with hindsight the Barrie trade was worse. Though I wasn't pleased that we didn't replace hutch until February.
Someone smarter and closer to da league should have figured out Barrie was scared of his own shadow ... that is why I always say you have to watch a guy live in isolation by yourself first and for a few games ... no one can do it off of da TV and even rewatching playoff series you really can't see it off of video... but watching him at Scotia it was clear very early on he was scared to go back for contested pucks and he left it to others and waited for outlet pass to be where he wanted to be in control of rush which he does very well ... I hope Brodie is able to go back and get contested pucks and get them to Rielly for his breakout ... if Brodie is that then we will see success this upcoming season

We'd hear all of that even if we made the Cup finals. People that want things to complain about will always find things to complain about.

Why not?

So... goaltending matters, and can significantly impact series results?

If goaltending was equal, Leafs beat Columbus too.

AVs (as well as most honest Leaf) fans know that Sakic fleeced Dubas for Kadri and that Barrie would not have been the difference to beating the Stars.

Everybody knows goaltending makes a difference but you can't possible think the AVs downgrade to Hutch was anywhere close to Andy's play vs CBJ. Andy was solid except for a couple of blips. Even you Dekes would have soiled your pants if Andy went down and Hutch was next up.

So it was clear the Bruins exlpoited our RHS by dumping the puck in their corner and Dubas' answer was Barrie ?? Yikes.

Lets just hope we have not made same mistake 2 years in a row ... gotta say I am disappointed in shanny he knows better ... you know what they say 3 strikes and you're out ... if brodie is not a fit for Rielly then only choice is to move him with Muzzy and then move up Dermy with Rielly for a 2nd pair ... apparently they looked good in covid camp last year together but we will see ... then Lehtonen with Bogo with holl as da 7th

The one major mistake Shanahan made was not letting Dubas fire Babcock after getting elimianted by Boston in 2019. Although to his credit at least he admitted he was wrong and should have let Dubas make that move and not on November 20, 2019.

Even before that he let Ego negotiate his deal with Larry and board ... it was setup to fail from day 1 ... i think shanny learned his lesson there ... he outhought himself again ... your coach can't be doing his deal with board ... Ego thought he was guy in charge as da senior hockey man til Lou came in

Despite the reputation Lamoriello had when Shanahan hired him to be the Leafs GM, it didn't matter when he choose to not renew his contract and picked Dubas to replace him.

When i had to watch that Pr!ck roll his lines while behind the entire game i was losing it. In the third period when he was doing it, nobody in my family was talking to me hahaaa. I was snapping. Yes, they should have thrown him to the curb Florida style right after the game.

Kyle Dubas’s most recent picks are stellar in this wjhcs.

I have to say this, Niemela is a better prospect that Amirov. :)

I don't know da man outside of a hand shake but I am told by many that do know him well that he viewed himself as da hockey man with MLSE with Shanny as his protege and Dubie as his analyst metrics guy

Is there any D drafted this year that's been more impressive than Topi this tourney?
I’m not sure. He’s second in scoring for defensemen in the world Juniors now. There is a US born guy ahead of him but not sure if he was drafted last year.
This kid is a steal. So composed its insane. He’s just flat out good :)

Cam York was drafted by Philly in the 1st round last year. I think around 15

Actually, most people knowledgeable about hockey know that it was a good trade from the Leaf's side; arguably better in terms of value, that addressed a critical need for the Leafs that there weren't many alternatives for.
and that Barrie would not have been the difference to beating the Stars.
You don't know that at all. Barrie was incredibly important to their run the previous season. He was one of their best players. You know if this was the Leafs, it would be spun into "we traded our best defenseman in the playoffs by far, for another forward when we score just fine! Left it all up to a rookie defenseman, and now we lost in the playoffs by allowing a bunch of goals and Kadri screwed up on the series tying and series winning goals! What a dumb GM!".

Hutch wasn't great, but he wasn't as bad as he played here at the beginning of the year. And he was going up against goaltending that also wasn't doing so great. The main goaltending impact in the Leaf series was Korpisalo playing so well. It's all still goaltending impacts. You're trying to blame one series on goaltending, while dismissing it for another series. And you seem to have no problem acknowledging how Hutchinson can impact results for Colorado, but when it comes to the Leaf goals against... suddenly Hutchinson's impact is forgotten and blamed on the defense.

Robertson - Hirvonen - Amirov
Miettenin - Abramov - Ovchinnikov

Sandin - Niemala
Kokkonen - Rindell

Akhtyamov
And a few other interesting names.
Tidy looking first 3 drafts so far, without many high picks.
