My 2 cents..

Seems every year the Canes just want to stick a toe in the water at the trade deadline.. this year they are taking the leap and going for it. If it doesn't work then at least they took the chance... not like the other way was resulting in Stanley Cups Finals every year. It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

I mean to those who think Drury was doing good enough as a 2C, this is how desperately different management thought.

And what they currently think of KK as well.

I mean KK sucks, but that's always been my opinion and he's signed for a bazillion more years. If he someday proves me wrong I'll happily claim I never said that and you're all full of shit.

our system depends on everyone playing defense, equally. Bunting couldnt do it and was a bad fit, and Bunting is better than Kuzy has been the last 2 seasons.

dont want a 7.8 million cap hit, 3.9 is somewhat better.
Doesn't the team putting the player on waivers have to cover 50% of the cap hit tho if they get claimed?

the problem to me is there is nothing that says Kuzy is a center on a RBA team looking at how he has played the last 3 seasons. He doesnt get the puck deep, he doesnt play much defense, he isnt great in the circle, and he doesnt forecheck. Drury and KK are much better fits as centers in the system.

Why would Kuzy play center for Rod and not Necas? it doesnt make sense to me. Necas does some of that better than Kuzy and hasnt gotten a shot at center.
Well Rod has seen Kuz at his best, and that guy not only played the position of center well he played good enough defense when he had to. He was also clutch. Necas is too imo.

Probably most importantly is the stick handling/possession game. Kuzy didn’t throw the puck away, he could always shield the puck and hold onto it long enough to find help. I think those are the skills that Necas lacks that Rod needs to see. Necas takes chances with the puck all the time still. A good possession minded, stick handling euro skill center like Kuzy knows when he’s supposed to hold onto the puck and when he needs to move it. Dude just didn’t gaf anymore. He’s got a redemption arc now available right in front of him. We’ll see if he’s up for the role.

The numbers don’t support the notion that Kuzy doesn’t give the puck away. He is very similar to Necas in that regard

On the other hand Kuzy works out great and we're thrilled to have that 2nd year.
Im not putting any money on that based on his last 3 seasons

That’s why I said he “didn’t” throw the puck away. I’m speaking of the former Kuzy, not the guy that played himself almost out of the league until we showed up.
Fair enough. I was looking at the last 3 years combined though.

Will he have a handler?

This has been an interesting few days. Feels a bit like seizing the moment, while, also, having the awareness that they could be fielding a much altered team next season and recognizing the uncertainty that comes with such changes. Buys some goodwill and runway with most fans, I imagine. Time to kick a little a$$
