Would love to see this guy help the Kings make a deep playoff run. Still wish the Avs would have kept him, would have saved us so many headaches. Love the goalie! 33 save SO, awesome night.
The horrorHe's almost 35 years old...
Goalies play until they're 40...the good/great ones anywaysHe's almost 35 years old...

Did you know that Jaques Plante had one of his greatest years as a Pro playing for the Maple Laughs in the 70's and posting a 1.88 GAA in a scoring happy NHL at age 41-42He's almost 35 years old...
Im wondering this as well.Ok, but why do goalies tend to have a later peak? Reaction time and flexibility are at their best when younger- is it just because goalies make no sense? I’d think athleticism trumps experience with that position, but obviously somethin else is going on. Explain.

And wondering if anyone has solid numbers to back up goalie peaks in that age 35-40 range.
If it’s a thing, I guess experience in play reading and positioning is more important overall than reflexes and athleticism.
Add Tim Thomas to that list as another famous example. I definitely remember these elite goalies playing well late into their career, I’m just wondering if there’s a comprehensive study done on all goalies that can peg down a specific peak goalie year.It is kinda a thing. Brodeur and Hasek played into their 40s, Craig Anderson just retired around 40, Miller and Lundqvist and Luongo all played awhile. Wonder how much mentality plays into it too- just the steady “don’t give a f***” of a 40 year old vs. the “this is everything ever” mentality of a 21 year old. Sounds silly, but I’m serious- maybe mentality matters that much more with that position.

We definitely could have. But our boneheaded GM went and got 8eor8iev and wasted 2 years of our team, just to spend more assets and get Blackwood at the same price while jersey fans laugh at usGlad to see Darcy is having a great season. I will be forever thankful for his time in Colorado and winning a cup. I was very critical of him in the playoffs because of his subpar play at times, but I will attribute that to the eye injury. Outside of that, he was solid and it would have been nice to keep him if we could’ve afforded him.
