And?

We still need an upgrade on a goalie.

Troy Stecher had a near 70% xGF today, yet you'd still like an upgrade on him.
Dude seriously? Last year you were pumping up Bouchard like he was a top 5 defensemen in the NHL and now this year you are saying Stecher shouldn't be upgraded? Yikes. Reality check bro, Stecher will be upgraded.

He's way too small and will get caved in come playoff time. Enough with your analytics.

Yeah but this is a you thing, not a reality thing. Once you come to terms with that, all of it makes more sense.

I am pretty sure this post was intended to be more a criticism of using a small sample size as evidence than it was to support Stecher but maybe the poster can confirm this.

Please don't Michael Kesselring this kid Oilers. Savoie has 9 points in his last 4 games and got 1 goal, 2 assists tonight

I love being right about these kids.

Savoie doing exactly what I said on these boards in September when people were blasting him.

By Mid January - Feb, this kid will show why he's a legit star talent.

Iam glad he has broken out. I was unsure but this is a great sign. Could be a real steal.

Not according to GSAx.

Yeah i see that moneypuck has Skinner as the better goalie based on goals saved above expected.

Natural stat trick has Skinner with a 2.10 expected goals against in all situations with 2 actual goals for a variance of 0.1. He also had a 0.6667 HDSV% based on the 3 high danger shots (saved 2 of 3).

Dostal had a 3.31 expected goals against with 3 actual goals in all situations, so a variance of 0.31. Dostal stopped 5/6 high danger shots for 0.83 HDSV%.

So i guess it depends on which site you use. Personally I take the goalie with the better high danger save percentage that faced more scoring chances.

What do you mean Michael Kesselring this kid?

You seriously think Savoie would be an add on for a deadline rental?
Yes. We don't have much in the way of assets and since when have we even thought twice about throwing away prospects?

I think some fans need accept that analytics is not the way you define a player

Gotta give to get man. That's what SC contending teams do. Anyone miss Schaefer?? lol didn't think so.

You either go all in or you do half measures. Sometimes you'll look back and regret trading a prospect or pick but that's what you have to give up to give the team the best chance at a Cup. C'est la vie.

Analytics are just another tool or weapon in the arsenal. By definition they should be reinforcing or expanding on what we see with the eye test.

Anyone who ignores statistics and analytics shouldn't be working in a front office.

Then tell them to f*** off.

I don't believe that is the correct attitude to hold if you're the Oilers.
If any teams come calling on Savoie, let them know he's most definitely available. But it's gonna cost!
If the offers are sub-par, then and only then do you tell them to take a flying f***.

If the Oilers can get a young-ish established player today, that fills a definite hole, they'd be dumb not to at least consider it.

Jesus Christ- just say you don’t understand analytics man. Florida invested a shit ton I. Their analytics and probably have the leading guy in it- Sunny Mehta. They promoted him to assistant GM and he played a major role in building that team through trade and the freaking waiver wire. Colorado, Vegas, Tampa- all invested heavily in it. In fact, all teams now have an analytics dept. clearly, teams value it.

Also, just so you are aware- analytics aren’t some fancy random number. It’s a measurement of what is happening on the ice- just like goals, assists, and points.

If the Rangers look like they are going to miss the playoffs, I think oilers should go after Quick for a backup. He is having a great rebound season and could handle the heat if skinner can't.

Teams are going to want Savoie in a deadline deal with us.

Yeah they are likely going to, and depending on what they are offering up, we might just trade him. It would suck to lose out on a ELC that would likely help as early as next season in our top-9, but it is what it is. At least if we trade him while he is on a heater in the AHL, we are probably getting something good in the trade.

I understand what you mean man what’s with the anger? Also, you think it’s totally plausible to just fully rely on analytics? Especially when they are stating Troy Stecher is a top 4 Dman?

Byram should be on our radar. That would be a great pickup now and for the future
I get the feeling he's going to end up in Vancouver. And yes, I think it will be in a deal for Pettersson.

On a side note, I wonder is Savoie would be outproducing Skinner right now. They really have to do something about him, either try to get him producing more or figure out a way to flip him for a guy who serves a function.
