Clearly Bowman believes centers are more important than wingers and that he can find wingers.

Holy crap! About 3.1 million per? Stan must know something we don't. I'm not saying Krugs doesn't deserve at least most of that, but I can't imagine that we could afford this. I kind of assumed that we just might not get him back.

Is this a sure sign that we say goodbye to Shaw?

I'm a huge Kruger fan. But I was thought 2.5 would be the absolute max. Stan has to know something. Bickell has to be gone next year. I can only imagine what that will cost.

Did I ever say that? I think he gets 4 on the open market. I like him a lot more at 1.75 than I do at 3.1ish.

Ok then how is it a 1.5 mil overpay if he'd get 4 on the open market and is getting around 3 under this deal? A player is worth what he can get on the open market.

You think Kruger would only get 1.5 mil on the open market?

Some team would pay 2-2.5 or more for a cup winning defensive specialist (see Dave Bolland), but it just seems too much for the Hawks given their perennial impending cap crunch.

At least Stan was true to his word about working on an extension for Kruger. I was gonna feel bad for Kruger being so loyal if we didn't resign him after the shenanigans we pulled over the offseason, but I still figured it would be in the 2-2.5 range, not over 3.

WAY too much. How does this make any sense for a team that is in serious cap trouble next season?

He's been injured all season, and contributes almost nothing offensively. There is no way he gets $3M+ on the open market. Plus, he's a ****ing RFA.

Wow. I'm still surprised at that dollar amount. If that's what he got, there's no way Shaw is able to stick around. He will almost certainly command more money.

Unless Stan is planning on getting Panarin a 4 extension to wait until Hoss is off the books before paying him the big bucks.

Idk. All I know is if the guy can pull this off, he's a wizard and they oughta put his statue outside the building. In the Jordan pose. Only with a pen instead of a basketball.

I'm wondering if this was kind of a finagling of this years cap situation by Bowman? Sign him on the cheap for this year, with a promise to extend for an overpayment later on. If you combine what he's being paid this year, then factor in the extension, he's getting around 2.66 AAV over 4 years, probably fair value, IMO.

If they get rid of Bickell, this fits easily under a 73 mil cap and you could still give someone like Shaw 3 mil as well
