The only good thing as a Stars fan i can say about him after we traded for him everyone else started blocking shots on a more regular basis as well .

Other than that we wasted assets aquiring him imho. I'll just preted we traded for Hamhuis and re-signed him and the Canucks somehow gave the assets to the Flames for no reason . :P

Haha we could have taken those assets off you instead geeze!

True, but if we end up needing the cap space, he will be. Right now we are fine if we simply place Horton on the LTIR.

Robidas doesn't even need to go up on there.

That being said, I doubt the Leafs acquire Russell. We have too many defensemen as it is.

Honestly, I'd rather have Russell as opposed to hunwick. If the leafs sign Russell, I hope we can trade hunwick for a 7th in 2025.

Just because a guy is LTIR on October 11, It doesn't mean he can stay on LTIR all year. So Lupul's contract at a 5.25m is still an issue.
Robidas can go on LTIR, but all of his cap hit is not eligible for cap reduction. He was a plus 35+ age signing so his cap hit 2.075m this year.
Let's imagine Russel's hockey playing value is 3.3m a year. It doesn't mean that teams have the cap or the inkling to sign him at that price, especially now that we are in the first week of October

Oilers looking to upgrade defence

Stauffer is plugged into to what's going on in the Oilers system. IIRC, when there were suggestions the Oilers were bringing in Mike Richards, he threw water on that fire.

Curious about the indifferent play of a vet D. That has to be Mark Fayne, I'd say.

What do you mean upgrade D?

Klefbom - Larsson
Sekera - Davidson
Nurse - Gryba/Fayne/Benning?

What could possibly go wrong?

Stoner for free. Kidding aside, other than being expensive he's good at his role. Heart and soul guy. Him and Maroon can keep folks in check.

Oilers looking to upgrade their defense? You don't say.

Haha, I was going to post the same exact thing.

With some high profile names still unsigned, it is a target rich environment currently. Whether or not Chiarelli is willing to pay the price for them is another story.

I don't think that's a surprise to anyone. It's better but still a pretty poor group overall.
Reinhart just doesn't look ready.

Haven't followed the Oilers, but who is the vet that had "indifferent" play?

If they stay healthy, Klefbom, Larsson and Sekera should make a very good top 3 so I wouldn't think they need to add too much.

Some idle chatter on Twitter about Cody Franson being a perfect target.

I've also seen some discussion of Yakupov for Trevor Van Riemsdyk or Ville Pokka.

Joking aside, Seidenberg would have been a good fit for the Oilers. Cheap, experienced, and can play both sides. That's the same role as Brian Strait used to have, except Seidenberg doesn't suck.

Seidenberg as well, but I threw in Boychuk there too.

Sabres would be in on a Franson deal. Won't take much. Casey Nelson might stick as the RHD on the third pair.

Would take third rounder but willing to go lower and out a year or two.

Nobody is taking that Stoner contract.

Probably not, but if the money or cap# doesn't hurt your club, then why not add that dimension. It doesn't grow on trees these days, either. He's barely a liability on D as an enforcer. Again, an expensive one. I guess what bugs me is a guy won't be playing where he could help a club, because he makes a bit too much.
