He's better than either of your bottom pair guys, certainly better than Wideman and he's cheaper or at least should be since it's now the last day of September

No question about that. But Wideman isn't going anywhere to make room for Russell

Awful advanced stats. Dallas didn't even want him at the deadline but Benning was being stubborn. Blocks alot of shots but that's not even a good stat cuz it probably means you just suck defensively.

Since when is shot blocking not defensive? Hes a heart and soul player with alot of versitility. besides last season was basically a write off because of the goaltending situation, the year before that he had 34 points and was +18 playing on the PP and PK.

That's contrary to everything I remember hearing from the TSN guys at the deadline. They said Dallas preferred Russell.

He was +18???? That changes everything!

Pretty sure he is already under some form of contract with Toronto and the Leafs are just working through the Cowen *********.

Once the Leafs are able to place Robidas, Lupul, and Horton on LTIR that will free up cap space to sign Russell.

It makes zero sense otherwise for Russell to go this long without a deal.

lupul won't be on LTIR.

True, but if we end up needing the cap space, he will be. Right now we are fine if we simply place Horton on the LTIR.

Robidas doesn't even need to go up on there.

That being said, I doubt the Leafs acquire Russell. We have too many defensemen as it is.

Highly, highly doubt it.

But he's not, he would be if he had the reputation of a top pairing guy but he doesn't, he has the reputation of a tough shot blockingD man.

Which is what he is

That's why he's unemployed. Because 30 teams are wrong and you're right

No he's unemployed because he's likely still asking for to much money and there is no money left not because he can't play because that stance would be ridiculous

Correct, he's a good defenseman who thinks he should be paid like a great defenseman. He most likely could have signed with a number of teams, but first misjudged the market, and now trying to hold out for every last penny he can get. It's absurd because the longer he let it go, he was likely losing dollars by the day. I bet he really wishes he had signed one of the first offers!

Russell is hot garbage. He's pretty much a Dan Girardi clone.

Have you ever actually even watched Russell play? His skating is quite possibly his best attribute.

McKenzie just said the Flames are one of 4 teams still in on Kris Russell. Flames have to do something with Smid first.

edit
LeBrun said it first on TSN
