Weren't you the guy who guaranteed the Habs would draft Wright? Lol.

Kotkaniemi has 23 points in his last 30 games.
Suzuki has 17 points in his last 30 games.

Damn can't remember who it was who was saying on the radio that Suzuki was much better than RNH and was more comparable to Patrice Bergeron.

The things you hear over here, it's golden

What I know is I would never choose Christian Dvorak over Kotkaniemi

The Canadiens were the champions of mismanaging prospects and KK was a masterclass of it. They draft someone who's clearly a project, then decide to rush him to he NHL only to bench him the moment they could. They played Nate Thompson over him. Good for him that he's doing well, he was an awesome player his draft year.

Did I say that?

Perhaps I'm just illustrating that he's a better player than a lot of people thought (especially Habs fans).
He's #3C, with #2 C upside. Most Habs fans thought that and still think that. I don't buy the 5 pts game hype nor did I buy the 4 points in 25 games at the beginning of the season.

Good for him if he starts producing.

I think that even you'll admit that the premise of the thread is flawed. He may well be better than people thought, but framing one game as definitive evidence isn't the way to go. It could have been a congratulatory thread for a solid achievement, but instead it's...this.

He's been producing like a 2C for the last 40 games. And he's currently playing 2C on the second best team in the league.

Definitive evidence?

I said "I guess he's not as bad as people thought"...

Just admit you like to try to trigger Habs fans, if not you would not have started your post that way.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Anyways, good for KK if he becomes a top 6 NHL player.

Without getting to far into a Clintonian "it depends what your definition of 'is' is" discussion, your OP uses a single game to make a declarative statement about his overall performance.

Again, your statement may be correct, but tying it exclusively to one game is not a great way to draw conclusions. Unless the goal is to rile up the Canadiens and Canes fans.

I agree with your premise that he’s a better player than some folks want to give him credit for, but let’s be honest here… he’s a 2C in the same sense that Travis Boyd is a 1C. His actual level of play would have him on the 3rd line of most teams.

The Canes’ lineup conundrum is that they have the ultimate 3C prototype in Jordan Staal, and a gaping hole at 2C because they refused to overpay Trocheck. Along comes Kotkaniemi… you can’t play him at 3C because promoting Staal is asking for trouble, so by default he lands on the 2nd line with wingers who play above his head. What’s more, he gets a fair amount of PP time — up till now, he was part of a really bad 2nd unit, but Gostisbehere at QB seems to have made a huge difference there. So he’s overslotted, but picking up points appropriate to that slot.

What’s interesting is that out of all this, Kotkaniemi has shown signs of developing into a nice utility player or “glue guy”. He facilitates his line without driving it, which is the next best thing to being a bona fide 2C. At his age, he has a chance to keep learning the art of defensive hockey and replace Staal as a PK fixture, and he’s projecting to be a similar 2C/3C tweener in his prime.

He was scratched today, but he still had as many points as the entire Lightning roster. So, he wasn't the worst today.
He hasn’t even joined the team yet. Has a visa appointment in Ottawa tomorrow to get that sorted and will play in Montreal Tuesday. Should hopefully be able to travel with the team after that.

The thing is, though, that at 22 years old, he still has an opportunity to grow into an actual 2C. He's already sort of grown into a legitimate utility center, so it's not crazy to think that he has room for more.
