You get the player at 18 years old. They are just as injury prone/durable as they were during their careers but won't suffer the exact same injuries of course. They will always re-sign with your team as long as you offer them a fair deal.

I went with Kopitar, Bergeron and Toews

Toews has the best peaked, but his career was cut short
Bergeron is great, arguably the best defensive forward ever (At worst he's top 3) but he didn't have the size or offensive prowess of Kopitar

Bergeron and Kopitar had pretty equal offensive ability, the only real difference in their yearly point totals was utilization and PP time.

For their careers, they have basically identical ES PPG at 0.52 for Bergeron (666 in 1,294) and 0.55 for Kopitar (796 in 1,439). The difference is Bergeron in his prime averaged 45% o-zone starts to Kopitar's 55% o-zone starts and Kopitar had an extra 1 to 1:30 a year in PP time.

And Kopitar may have been physically bigger, but he didn't play bigger averaging under 50 hits and 30 PIM a season

With that stipulation, I go with Toews #1. The reality we got had his career ending earlier than it should have. But starting again now without the same impact that COVID had on Toews and he could possibly last longer. I feel he had the best peak of the 3, and was more consistent over his prime.

Toews
Kopitar
Bergeron

Bergeron also played with significantly better linemates through his best offensive seasons

They are all three pretty much equal and this is splitting hairs but to me but I slightly prefer Kopitar and Toews before Bergeron. Kopitar had the better longevity even if his peak was perhaps not as clutch in the post season and impactful as Toews it was close enough. Bergeron just didn’t have that clutch extra gear to me in the post season when you needed it desperately. And the actual defensive impact difference to me is mostly negligible even though Bergeron was a media darling award winner.

Kopitar
Toews
Bergeron

Hard to go with any option besides

1.Kopitar
2. Bergeron
3. Toews.

Kopitar and Bergeron have multiple selkes while Toews just one.

Kopitar has a hart nominee while Bergeron and Toews do not.

Toews only really hard 5 really high end seasons before he declined majorly... that said I hope he able to make a comeback next season and go out on his terms

Agree 100% with this and in a vacuum Kopitar really stands out for his consistency of excellence and take all 3 guys for any team this is the way it shakes out.

One could quibble with Toews/Bergeron ranking as Jonathon had that clutch winning pedigree before entering the NHL and some might prefer his peak and SC chances over Bergeron.

But this is all very subjective and many people are just going to look at the stats and not even think deeply about the question being asked here.

Kopitar one.

You put him with the guys Bergeron or Toews played with and I don’t think the offensive output would even be close.

This is basically it but honestly at peak I think all 3 are extremely close. May even have Kopitar #1 here still.

Yeah really I believe Kopitar had a lot more offensive potential he never got to show. Imagine him playing with Marchand and Pastrnak?

Kopitar was the most skilled offensively.
Bergeron was the best defensively.
Toews was the most balanced, probably.

This is sort of like asking which pokemon you want to start with: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or Charmander. You can't go wrong with any of them. It just depends on your preference.

Kopitar had a 92 point MVP caliber season with a last-legs Dustin Brown and a rookie 25 point Alex Iafallo haha, I would LOVE to see what he could do with elite wingers, which we only saw in flashes when the stars aligned (ie 2014 Gaborik)

31 more points than the next closest scorer, his linemate...45 more points than the next closest Kings F.

Dude was an absolute immense offensive talent whose #s overall suffered for being 200 ft. Mr. Everything for the defensive Kings for so long...always leading the league in minutes played and they were HARD minutes with the top PK and the top matchups.

The funniest part of that season maybe was the narrative of the MVP race, remember the telecasts saying "kopitar is going to have to face mackinnon now and we'll see who ends up on top" and he popped 4 goals and suddenly the narrative switched from MacKinnon to Taylor Hall. Just another near miss for Kings hardware, him and Doughty have had it rough for their legacies.

I first realized how truly underrated he was when I got to see him play live best on best in 2016 vs. Sweden. He didn’t give the puck away once all game, when it left his stick it was either a clean pass to a teammate or a shot on goal. He reminded me of if Sundin was a 200ft perfect player to go along with his size and skill, and plays a perfect game that may not standout in a flashy way like a Lidstrom on defense.
