Anze Kopitar is on the verge of getting paid.
The Los Angeles Kings and the 28-year-old center are "inching closer" to an eight-year contract extension, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
Dreger, speaking on TSN's "Insider Trading" segment, said the Kings made a contract offer Monday, and that the extension will be eight years long. A deal isn't imminent, as the sides aren't close enough yet, but it's moving along, Dreger added.
Kopitar doesn't have any points through two games this season. He has been a King his entire career, drafted 11th overall in 2005. The two-time Stanley Cup champion has 610 points in 685 regular-season games and 60 points in 70 playoff games.
