Kopitar Selke Finalist

It's so great seeing you downplay everything Kopitar achieved just to get people to join your narrative.

But following multiple forums.. You need to work harder.

Examples? I pretty much let the chips fall where they may. I didn't downplay Kopitar's accomplishments. Someone riding Kopitar's jock, much like yourself, suggested Kopitar could have won the Conn Smythe in 2014. Clearly Williams, Gaborik, and Doughty were better in 2014 and were more deserving than Kopitar.

No need to work harder? You are the one that is going to have to break a sweat if you want to defend him, and the big money, long term contract you think he deserves.

I love Kopitar and appreciate all he is done for the Kings. I don't think it would be wise to give him an 8-year deal worth $72M, that's all. And if his agent insists on that kind of ridiculous term and money, I recognize the reality of Dean having to look at other options.

That would be piss poor asset management on Dean's part. So no, I don't think it would go down like that at all.

Lombardi isn't going to get fired even if the Kings were to miss the playoffs again next season. Dean might kick himself upstairs and Futa might take over, but I don't see that happening for quite a few years.

Once again you go to the most dire scenario. I don't know how contentious the contract negotiations will be with Kopitar, but I can't see Dean giving him 8 years with the kind of cap hit some of you are talking about. IF 8 years at a huge cap hit is what Kopitar's agent insists on, Kopitar's days as a member of the Kings are numbered.

As long as the Kings have Doughty to build around, there won't be a "full" rebuild. Not having Kopitar would change the Kings approach, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Peter Chiarelli missed the playoffs this year and was gone, two years after making the cup finals and four years after winning the cup. He was two wins away in 2013 from essentially duplicating what LA did. If LA misses the playoffs next year as well, you bet DL could be gone. It's certainly not a foregone conclusion he stays.

As for Kopitar, LA is not going to deal away their best centre and the best forward of their cup winning years if they are in the hunt for a playoff spot next year. They should be as well, barring a collapse even worse than this year. Trading Kopitar just won't happen unless LA completely implodes next season. If you think it will, it's a dream.

What we don't know if what Kopitar wants and how set on it he is. But given his age and what guys like Toews got recently, if he wants an eight-year deal bad enough, he knows he can get it. If LA doesn't want t, he can go to UFA and get seven years. Someone is going to open the checkbook for him.

If Kopitar does leave is it "the end of the world"? No, of course not, but LA will be without their best forward and have an aging core with only a few guys like Toffoli and Pearson showing strong top two upside long-term. And they won't have their 1st in 2016 either. Unless DL starts pulling off deals to bring in some top end talent, LA is going to have a pop gun offense in two years without Kopitar, largely a one-line team (the 70's line). And you will not find a Kopitar on the trade market or in UFA. Name the last player of Kopitar's market to hit UFA? The last time someone like him was traded was Thornton, and that was a decade ago.

See, it happens about every 10 years or so.
