What is the ceiling for this guy? His numbers don't look super impressive but that said the package wasn't anything crazy anyways. We sure coud use someone in that mold. And honestly, the league is that harsh? 60 seconds really NHL?? wow

We would be facing Vegas right now. Knies would have been 1000 times more productive in the playoffs than Kapanen or any other plug they put besides Newhook and Demidov. And both series against Tampa and Buffalo would have been very different.

Physical presence, 23 (younger than Cole, just a tad older than Bolduc), has hands…This would have added talent and grit to our lineup.

The guy is 2

The guy is 23 (just one year older than Slaf), had over 60 points, can play a physical game and can skate, and he’s not impressive?

Not exactly tomehto tomahto! What could have been!

Priority one for the Habs to me should be an offensive centre.

Second would be a right d with some size, physicality and able to eat minutes.

Adding wingers would be lower down the list (a physical guy for the fourth line would be nice).

If the Knies rumour is true, and he is a good player, the agreed deal was made with Treliving as GM, who isn't there anymore. Don't think draft picks & prospects would help keep Matthews happy as well.

Myself, would keep the trade assets for priorities one and two.

I understand what Knies is and everything but that's a LOT to give up....

Zharovsky
ANOTHER TOP PROSPECT
AND... two 1st round draft picks.

I completely understand Zharovsky and the other top prospect and the two 1st round picks can all flop, etc... but damn that's a lot of value there.

It's a hard pass from me.

That would've been one helluva trade. Yes, losing Zharovsky would've stung, but Knies is a proven top-six winger with the strength and size we really needed this playoffs. He may not be a C, but he makes our team stronger longterm. No way to know how much difference he would've made in the post season. Best case - we shave a game off one of our 7-game series and face Carolina slightly more rested. For what it's worth, I don't think we would've gotten past Carolina either way.

I would have made the trade on the account that our next couple of first round picks are going to be very late in the draft, you could almost look at them as very early second round picks. He has everything we could have wanted, a more talented Anderson. I dont think he would have saved us from being dumped by carolina, however it would have improved the team and he could have been a good core piece to be on the second line and we desperately needed the size and the power on the top lines.

That's rough.

Obviously I love Zharovsky, but we have enough raw skill on the team that moving him for a guy who not only brings offense, but also contributes in every other aspect of the game, would have been a great move.

You have to give to get. Knies is only 23 years old, so trading futures for him isn't a problem like it would be for a 30 year old.

The 2 late first round picks are good assets, but picks in that range tend to get overrated. Between 25-30, you have about a 50% chance of drafting a player who won't have an NHL career. And a large portion of the players who do make it end up as bottom-6 forwards or bottom pair defensemen.

I don't know how they find another player like Knies on the market. That hurts not to get it done. If they were counting on Hage to be the 2C, Knies would have been the perfect winger to put opposite of Demi.

You've added the word "top" to the unnamed prospect, it's just as likely the other prospect is a guy like Joshua Roy.

Now it's still a lot to give up, but if Zharovsky's value is seen as just another late 1st then it's not terrible. But I really think Zharovsky has a chance to be special so I'm loathe to give him up unless the return is a truly elite player.

Watched quite a few Leafs games last season. Knies impressed me more in the past. He was not as engaged as what I had seen previous to last season and maybe Toronto's management saw the same thing. Or what was/were the reason(s) he was made available? Bobby McMann was more impressive than him, more of a physical presence. As others have said, seems like an awful lot to give up.

I'm not making that trade. Here's the thing, if you have an elite center and and elite winger, you can plug in different guys as the second winger and they can find success. But if you have two elite wingers, it's not easy to plug in any old center and still find that success.

We already have that potentially elite winger in Demidov, but we need that second elite center. We don't need a second elite winger.

Top prospect to me reads like a Michael Hage.

Joshua Roy is gonna be 23 years old soon and hasn't come close to cracking an NHL roster, even when we were terrible. I don't think a player like him can be considered a top prospect.

I also call BS on this, just a big juicy bait to farm clicks out of the 2 biggest fanbases.

Habs need a C for Demidov and a RD for Hutson
