Knies let down by team and keefer. Teams afraid of confrontation.

Honestly I wonder if it's not the coaching saying don't retaliate.
Schenn will drop the mitts. Acciari Lafferty and even Rielly will. A response could easily have been arranged.
You can't concentrate on getting revenge and fighting when you're facing elimination. When we were in elimination games against Tampa all their chippiness went out the window, at that point you have to fill the net and nothing else.

It still blows my mind how hard Knies worked for the team, and how nobody stood up for him when his head got rock bottomed into the ice by Sam Bennet. The cross checks and dirty plays but Bennet, gudas, and tzitchucker, resulted in 0 leafs dropping the gloves. They all just skated around afraid to get a call.

Part of that falls on keefe. He should have slammed the team in the locker room for not sticking up for his rookie after how hard he worked.

Also gudas screeming in wolls face after the game winner? Someone should have slapped the beard off of his face, something to remember for next year.

Dissapointed in how non confrontational these guys are.
This is a team of p***ys and they have no one to blame but themselves they are what dubas wanted. He just wanted players that skated around and made pretty passes not a team of checkers and hitters and this team will never be that as long as the core players are here

Yep, Dubas thinks he could revolutionize the game and finesse his way to a Cup. Tells you he's a guy that is completely naive about NHL hockey that's been around for over 100 years.

The most puzzling thing is why does he think it's these 4 core players that could win it all? Guy literally bet half the salary cap on 4 forwards who hasn't proven anything, while scrambling around to build a d corp and trying to luck his way into finding a competent goalie...that is literally amateur hour.

I felt like we were not intimated by Tampa but we were against Fla. I'm not saying revenge, rather response. We didn't let Tampa run over us like we let the cats

Doesn't even need to be a physical response. An offensive response would have been nice too. Worked against Tampa.

Agreed but Bobrovsky was/is playing out of his mind and nullified any spark we could generate from offense, so we should have recalculated our response

Honestly, what is crazy to me is that the team didn't figure out that maybe just going inside and trying to jam the puck (as often as we were able to do it and it generally being effective/what you want to do) or going lateral was not the answer...

And it wasn't like Keefe didn't point this out from the beginning.

We beat Bobrovsky going high (and he was not handling anything above his legs very well in that series) and with deflections. Neither were things we chose to do very often for whatever reason, even when given the opportunity.

Oh well... Playing stupid is nothing new for these players.

Remember when Iginla and Lecavalier squared off against each other in the Stanley Cup finals? Can't see that happening here - our top stars just smile and laugh in order to avoid confrontation while Stamkos, Tkachuk, etc punch them in the face.

The Clark/Gilmour Leafs and the Sundin Leafs both routinely went deep in the playoffs (despite being worse regular season teams), but were both grittier than this era's teams. It seems to be a helpful ingredient that we simply lack near the top of our lineup.

It's baffling. If I get punched in the face, I see red, It's like a biological response to hit back. You can feel the rage takeover. I mean, I guess if it wasn't hockey I would admire Marner and Matthews for having good inhibitory control, but it's hockey. It's weird to me that they just laugh as they get annihilated with fists. Nothing about the laugh screams "cool" to me. They act like it doesn't phase them, but based on how they play against aggressive teams, it does phase them.

Poor Knies. Big lad who needs others to protect him.
Welcome to the NHL. Next time send an early message by announcing you have arrived like Wendel did when he was younger and definitely smaller.

1984 WHL versus 2023 NCAA

Training and preparation perhaps a tad different?

It was a dirty play with intent to injure.

That being said, Leafs top players could all be NCAA players for their style, and I'm guessing they have no one like Bennett in any level of the organization. With the way the refs work the games in DOPS dole out discipline, it encourages Todd Bertuzzi action.

NHL is entertaining at times, but honest and fair aren't terms you'd use when it comes to game fixing.

To his credit Maurice had his team take away most of that space and didn't allow a lot of clean shots. I agree they needed to adjust and didn't. Imo that's on players and coach. If the players don't want to go there is up to the coach to convince them

Stop. Just stop. They were not GoaLIeD. Easy perimeter shots are easy to save

Tell that to Boston and Carolina. Sorry he is just playing insanely good right now.

But I do have to say our top guys did not step up enough as well they played scared imo.

I don't entirely disagree but it is funny to think that if Bobrovsky didn't stand on his head none of this talk would exist
Bobrovsky was the difference between elimination and progression without doubt in my mind. All games were decided by one goal in effect.
I did expect more toughness after the Tampa series, especially against the likes of Bennett which was quite a disappointment.

The problem is with the philosophy of how this team was built. It is only built for regular season success. The main core of this team will NOT do what it takes to achieve playoff success. Winning one round is NOT a success. If it is in your books, then your standards are very low.

Leafs are soft with no pushback sticking up for Knies or when Kampf got pasted. Many other examples over the last 7 years how soft this team is. Dubas/Keefe have a culture problem with this team.Mattews and Marner just smiling at their opponents pushing them around. And don't mention old over the hill washed up players like Simmonds and Clifford. Leafs needed Bennet,Gubas,Perry,Moroon type players that still have the hockey skills but will also stand up for their teammates
This team is buttery soft. They won't even take a hit to make a play. Thinking they'd drop the gloves to defend their rookie teammate is expecting too much. Embarassing and pathetic.

Do you even understand the point of this thread?
Bob won Game 1 with 3.51 goals saved above expected
Bob won game 2 with 2.17 goals saved above expected
Game 3 was a clear Florida win
Woll won game 4 with a 2.15 goals saved above expected
Bob won game 5 with a 2.34 goals saved above expected.

In the battle of goaltenders, Florida edged the leafs a net 2 games out of the 4 needed which is pretty big.
Sammy was actually pretty bad in game 1 and 2 and Bob was great.

lmao come on man.
Kid is huge. Motherly types around here think everyone needs to be babied. It will make a man out of him.

Kid had a concussion and was ruled out for the entire series, you want him to come back with concussion symptoms and square off with Bennett and risk significant head injury ? Nothing manly about that, that's just stupidity. Situations like that the leaders on the team need to step up and teach Bennett a lesson, it never happened.

These pusillanimous milksop pantywaists just take after their management team.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Kerfoot gets molested in front of the bench with Nylander a few feet away watching. Tavares gets punched in the face over and over with no response. Gudas takes out Kampf and stands there shrugging after.

Knies gets his head slammed into the ice

Nobody did a damn thing. Not one teammate came to their defense. Not even a shove.

What a pathetic milquetoast group these Leafs players are.

But why put the heat on the players? They simply follow the corporate directive. The rot starts at the top, with Tanenbaum.

Soft owner.

Soft president. Soft coach. Soft players.

Soft team.
