I watched Dallas lots. For the last half dozen years they were one of my preferred Non Oilers watches. Klingberg was a problem last couple years on the Stars. Worst GA and statlines at times. -28 and -15 on good teams.

klingberg is very impulsive as a D. He's not any great system player and hever has been. he's there for the D jump and offense on teams that require that kind of boost from the back end. I just don't see how this fits or makes sense here under our systems. Too much random in his game.

The guy was -7 in his 14 games this year with the Leafs. I don't watch the Leafs at all but wonder if he was a tirefire there too

He was a tire fire in TO. Seems like the only place he wasn’t awful the last few years was in Minnesota when he was picked up at the deadline by them the year before last. Had a good regular season finish and a solid 4 game playoff performance.

He's looked done the last few seasons, I guess the hope is he was affected by injury issues that are now behind him. He was a good player once upon a time.

ftr I really liked Klingberg several years ago. He started folding hard in Dallas. I dunno. I'll try to keep open mind on this one and wait and see. He's a talent, no doubt and can make some plays and play with talent. Its his mistakes and puck throwaways that scare me. Klingberg makes the most inexplicable plays, a lot of them.

It is possible though that Klingberg has overplayed pucks on teams that desperately need the offense. On a juggernaut team like this maybe he can just move into more reliable less risk plays. He's smart so its certainly possible he can learn to play more within a system here.

Playoff run experience will not hurt at all.

I can live with that. They're paying Josh Brown a straight $1M lol
Pretty bargain basement cost. Can live with that. Insurance I guess. I'd hope though this doesn't mean any of our D have undisclosed issues. Didn't notice any difficulty with Ekholm yesterday for instance but he was game day decision this week.

Close to non-existing defence. If he plays with who... Nurse??? Then they will ice five forwards at once.

Klingberg is the dude who Zibanejad deked and checked off the boards in the highlightclips in his draftyear.

Looks like those Mutts guys were right again. They definitely have some kind of source.

Don't like this if it's a trial run with Nurse but I'm pretty sure that's what will happen. Hopefully he finds his form of 5 years ago, but it's no real risk in terms of contract so why not.

Time will tell. Who would have thought Oliver Ekman Larsson would have been able to find a spot on a Stanley cup winning team with Florida after years of being a defensive nightmare for Arizona and then Vancouver.

Open mind I agree. Hopefully he can come in, find a place next to Nurse or Kulak and make a positive impact. He feels like a Coffey type player. And if he can’t cut it hopefully the Oilers aren’t afraid to cut ties.

The agent doesn't turn down the offer, the player does. He took a risk, gambled on himself, and lost massively. At least he'll get a cup out of it.

That's fair. But do you think he is rejecting that deal if his agent isn't telling him he can make more elsewhere?

so we're no longer accruing cap i assume?

Well no, can push bonus into next year's cap, and we haven't activated him into our roster yet - and even if we do - we can send down Brown or Ryan.

Was Klingberg the player that got absolutely screwed by his agent during ufa one year? Ended up waiting to long and all the teams offering big deals moved on, and then he signed a one year deal with the ducks and fell off a cliff?

so we're no longer accruing cap i assume? josh brown not sent down?
I think they dipped into LTIR when they called up Philp, but now they are at 24 players on the roster so someone needs to be sent down for sure.

I'd assume Brown goes down (Zappa reference there for all you fine folks), but probably Philp and possibly also Stecher go down when they're back from the road trip so they can continue accruing more effectively.

Unfortunately did already and saw "Oilers gonna Oil" so had to respond to that garbage then put that thread out of my memory.

Yep, typical mains. A recent poster is acting like we're done on 'going in' after signing a buriable low risk contract in Klingberg.
Idiot can't even simply google 'When is the NHL trade deadline?' Herpa derp.

Based on what? Klingberg even averaged over 20 in Toronto, and that's when he was hurt.
The Leafs would have basically anybody on D. pffft. You on the wrong board? ;)

Top team in the league that went to the SC final just last season is gonna Oiler. OK. Whaddya mean? heh

Most clubs would wanna Oiler and currently have an energy problem.

I want some laughs on this one ya cheap bastids. ;)

The agent might have given him bad advice. To be honest, it is not possible for me to imagine being offered $50 to $60 million and saying, no thanks. God himself couldn't convince me to say no unless more money were literally offered and place directly under my nose.

He's veteran who can move the puck, has playoff experience and has scored in the NHL from the blueline. He won't be "the solution" but he makes the team better and like the bet for the team.
