His analytics were among the worst in the league defensively , but still a low risk move before the deadline, IMO. A reminder, OEL had brutal numbers for several years before he found a home on a contender in Florida last year. Sometimes, health and fit can be a bigger issue than we realize.
Also, I think they want to have RD depth in the playoffs since you absolutely cannot play Brown, so Klingberg will be the 7/8.

If he comes in and can bring back time a little bit, we might have a lot of leeway to use that LTIR space at the deadline. The depth you could add..

He’s eligible for performance bonuses I believe
He's only 32, but I think you might be right because of how much time he missed.

Low risk high reward. Worth seeing what he's got before the trade deadline. Worst case, you discard him on waivers and bury him in the AHL.

I want a goalie!
The Oilers should be calling about Vejmelka everyday

I have faith that if there is a player still left here Coffey, Stuart and Knob will be able to get something out of him. And if not then he can go bye bye

I hope that Josh Brown being in the lineup recently was just a last chance check before they decided to make this move.

To me, this is a win. If he sucks, then whatever, move on. If he's worth anything at all in the lineup, then we get him for basically free.

Same thing last year with Corey Perry - which has been a great success in my eyes.

Even if he is bad D zone, having more speed on our blue line is important IMO.

Our Achilles heel at the moment is giving up rushes because of aggressive/risky plays high in the offensive zone. Having another guy that can move and cover off rush chances if we have a break on us fits into what we need I think.

How he plays when in the D zone is probably a totally other matter, but I feel like he could bring something to the other 3/4ths of the ice.

I listened to an interview with Bill Armstrong earlier this week. I get the sense they are pretty high on re-signing Vejmelka. But, anything is possible when you have 2 goalies and a third in their system that are crowding the 1A crease spot.

I don’t mind take the risk as long as the deal is league minimum (or very close to) and without any bonuses. Really don’t want to push any cap to next year or hurt a deadline add with this signing. Really don’t see where he fits if he doesn’t hit but depth is still nice to have.

Sure and they should be, but until he re-signs, call and call.

Hopefully this hip resurfacing surgery helps him reclaim some of his past success. He’s been pretty dreadful defensively for a few years. But when he was at his best he was an elite dman.

Patty Kane has done well since his surgery. Hopefully Klingberg will be the same. Needing that procedure done would explain the drop off in play.
