Kostin is just showing that he has taken PR training. It would be pretty cruel to tease Kostin like this. He stuck around in training camp. He's seen what NHL practice looks like. Unless there is a specific goal for him to see while he is up, I'd much rather have called up someone like Nolan.

Cruel? Not if they made it clear at the start that he might not play in either game. Man, I wish my employer was cruel enough to pay me a pro-rated portion of $832k for a few days instead of the $70k normal rate.

Again, I’d like for him to get into a game too but I think there are plenty of benefits if he just watches too. And I’ll note that pre-season practice when there’s close to 30 guys isn’t the same as a normal regular season practice.

I doubt Kostin's primary concern is the money. Dude has been vocal about wanting to play in the NHL since before we drafted him.

There is a quote about Kostin calling both his parents right after he was called up. "I'm so excited to get a chance." Does not sound like someone who was told it was only to sit in the box.

From JR:

Some on this board: unacceptable if he doesn’t play a game.

Kostin himself: beneficial even if I only practice with the team.

Personally, I’d love to see Kostin get into the lineup Sat and see how he measures up but him simply practicing with the team for a few days and watching from the pressbox would be beneficial too - likely more beneficial to his overall longterm development than playing the Manitoba Moose twice this weekend IMO.
Get real.

What is Kostin going to say? “Nah this is completely pointless being up here, I better play a game or I’ll be pissed” ???

That would get him sent down immediately.

Still shocks me how people take hockey player quotes seriously. They are all trained to say absolutely nothing of note.

Holy hyperbole Batman!

I guess there is another practice tomorrow, but there will only be an optional Saturday. If he is on the PTO line tomorrow at practice, I think only an injury would get him into the lineup.
Tomorrow isn’t a practice. It’s just a morning skate and they will skate in these same lines. So it won’t have any affect on whether he plays Saturday or not.

That’s an assumption.

I guess I’ll make my own assumption - that a team that seems to know what they’re doing isn’t leading the kid on and were straight with him.

Except O'Reilly lol. To your point though, it shows what happens when a player actually let's something out.

So, if a player that actually understood and was fine with it would say they were fine with it and a player that wasn’t fine with it would give the company line and say he was fine with it, how would we ever tell the difference? Why should we assume a guy is just giving a PC answer and actually believes the opposite of what he’s saying?

BlueDream isn't saying that we should assume Kostin believes the opposite of what he is saying. He is saying that it is silly to try and draw any inference about a player's actual opinion based on what he says to the media because we have no way of knowing whether it is 'media 101' or his actual feelings.

I want Kostin to play this weekend. I don't expect it, but my opinion is that Kostin should be in the lineup if we're calling him up. I can say that openly on this forum. If I was a Blues employee, there is absolutely no way I'm saying that to the media (or going on this forum and saying it here). When there is tangible reason to believe a statement critical of your employer could impact your employment, it is silly to assume an employee is psyched about their employer's decisions when they publicly say that they are.

I would be shocked if Kostin gets any ice time before being sent down. He'll get a feel for what Chief's practices require and learn from there. I'm willing to bet that one of the reasons for the recall is that it buys the Blues time to figure out what to do with McGinn and Brouwer and protects us by having a forward in the press box in the event of an injury. I wouldn't be shocked if we sign both of those guys within the next week and send Kostin back down.

I for one think that Army was using the Jedi Mind Trick on him during that interview.

Klim reminds me of Jethro Bowdine. Suddenly, those drunk St Louis fans that sing about West Virginia and mountain momma’s makes total sense. All this time the John Denver singalong really was about seeing mountain momma’s boy “Jethro” play his first NHL game.

I will be shocked if both McGinn and Brouwer are signed by the Blues. I won't be surprised if we give a 2 way deal to one of them, but not both.

So they can sign a PTO player to a two way deal? If so, I can see them signing one up here and parking another in SA as a cheap insurance policy.

I’d be shocked if either one wanted to play in the AHL. Considering the money they both have made. I doubt they wanna mix it up down there or 75K a year when they know they’re pretty much done anyway

I would expect there would be at least tacit if not explicit agreement with either that if they are down in SA for a certain length they can ask for release and will be granted it.
