Left shot, right wing. Not sure if he's played LW or not, but he could do something there I'm sure, if needed. I would say there's a very low chance of him ever being a center, though.

Okay, I just saw his report said left handed shot. I'm a scrub when it comes to correlating that to position lol. This is good for the team though, right? Since there seemed to be a shortage of Right wingers last year

Kostin is a LH RW just like Tarasenko. Seems to be the thing.

I wouldn't say it's unlikely that he'll ever be a center. There's really no reason why he couldn't be skill-wise - he just isn't likely to be that 200-ft game player. I think he's better suited on the wing in any case.

A lot of Russians play the wing opposite of their shot.

It makes sense. The most dangerous shot is a forehand shot from the middle of the ice, having their forehand towards the middle of the ice allows them to deje into their forehand into the middle of the ice giving them the best scoring chance. I don't understand why more fowards dont playing their "off wing"

Forwards playing their off wing is much more prevalent in Europe (and especially in Russia) where the ice is normally 100' wide rather than the typical 85' North American surface. There is more room to maneuver to the middle on the bigger surface, and being off-handed for board play isn't as critical.

Apparently Strickland interviewed Kostin's agent today and it was pretty good listening. Anyone catch that? Only thing I heard (second hand) was that Armstrong told him pre-draft "If I draft you Friday, will you sign Tuesday?"

They re-stated he really wants to be in the NHL, gave up a lot of $$ to leave the KHL, and they also talked about how many times Klim has scored was in key situations when his team needed a goal the most.

I believe Army alluded to the questioning already. I believe Army said Kostin was asked a lot of the same questions as Tarasenko before he was drafted and both gave similar answers.

Strickland asked why Kostin fell so far. The response was the typical Russian factor plus the surgery.

The agent said multiple times that it doesn't matter when you get drafted but rather what does the player do once they are drafted.

The agent described Kostin's work ethic to Datsyuk. He said Kostin was a power forward and compared him to Federov. I took that to mean his skating & skill because Federov was not a power forward.

They both talked about Kostin playing in the NHL this year. Both expected it at some time this year which surprises me but we'll see.

The agent said Tarasenko did call Kostin and welcomed him to the Blues. Evidently Tarasenko was on vacation in Spain. The time difference made it a 5am call for Kostin which they joked about.

The agent talked about how much Kostin liked being at the prospect camp & how happy he was that the Blues coaches took extra time to work with him because of the language barrier.

That's about all I remember.

Everything I've seen and read about this kid makes me smile. I hope he makes it. I hope he becomes the #2 RW behind Tarasenko. I would love for him to displace someone by forcing the Blues hand to make the team.

Schwartz Stastny Tarasenko
Schenn Fabbri Kostin :)yo:)

Obviously, I know this isn't going to happen, but hey, I can dream, lol.

EVEN IF he was one of the best 3 RW in camp, I think his long-term development would be better served by playing in the AHL for a while. I suspect this is how the Blues will view it, too. There are enough good options to have someone play there and put more investment into Kostin. But I would love for him to force the issue, and play his way onto the team, even if its mid-season. The guy does not lack for confidence. I can't wait for Traverse City. I think if there is reason to expect something big from him in camp, we'll get an indication then.

I think Kostin will definitely start in the AHL. That makes the most sense for his long term development. That said, I'd love nothing more than to watch him go off in the minors and force the team to reward him. Which leads to another point. I really like the team's habit of rewarding the guys playing the best in the AHL with a promotion in case of injury.

I just wonder if Kostin or even a Thompson has a Pastrnak type start, will they be called up even if there isn't an injury? I hope we have that issue where they are just lighting it up after ~20 games.

This is certainly a possibility. I have my doubts that they would do it with Thorburn given that they offered him a two year deal, but either of Bennett or Sundqvist could be sent to the AHL to make room for a player that is knocking down the door to the NHL, be that Kostin or Thompson. The risk would be losing one of those players to waivers, but my guess is that they would be willing to take that chance with Bennett, and perhaps even Paajarvi. Sadly, a more likely scenario would be sending down Barbashev because he would be waivers exempt.

Kyrou would be a different scenario in that, unless there is something I am forgetting, they would have to have him on the roster from when training camp breaks. I'm pretty sure that once they send him back to Sarnia they can only bring him back to the NHL under emergency conditions.

Jeez, Kostin get pretty hyped preview, "he has a bit of Tarasenko, Ovechkin and Malkin."

Really suprise if that kind of potential is picked on #31 spot. Maybe the on the best steal that spot, but we'll see.
