Schmidt’s arrival and Campbell’s emergence making him expendable?

Why would Brantford give up assets for a vet. They’re down the standings.

Or, are we making room for somebody?;)
On the import side of things??
Interesting to say the least.

If true.... what's that saying from the movie Field of Dreams..."build it, they will come"?

Kivijarhu has been slipping a little in the rankings. Has he had a change of heart?

He’s only played 7 games this year and is down the depth chart among D on his team.

Sarina traded Martone last year, so yes teams do trade them when they are close and short of picks.
It's too early in the season to start talking about buying/selling players for a run at something so far down the road IMO. It has generated a lot of excitement in KW. Couple of weeks ago posters were trading all the vets and heading for the bottom of the barrel. Not many teams are really that outstanding that GMs have to jump in already to bolster their line ups to get the jump on opponents. I have to ask how far did Sarnia get trading Martone and where did they hang the championship banner? It has taken the Rangers a couple of decades to get back to a respectable position. I think the emphasis here should be a continuation of what we have seem in this short period of time. Giving the fans something exciting down at the old barn for the next few seasons. Personally I would like to see the results of the best draft the Rangers had in several years come to fruition. Just my thoughts. Whatever happens will be interesting.

And when you have two 1st rounders on the roster, it’s easier to trade one of them, as Hunter did last year.
It's sometimes beneficial to a 16 year old to get traded to get more icetime. I think Garrett McFadden's development was stunted in 2013-14 with the Storm. He was used sparingly in Guelph's run to the Memorial Cup as they had a very deep defence. He never even dressed for a playoff game.

Not saying that would happen this season in Kitchener as our rookies have all been getting substantial ice time so far. But it's something to consider.

Counterpoint is London. They routinely have rookies in Jr. B or riding the pine and still develop into good players. I'd be less worried about it with skaters than with goalies.

The way our D stands today (not two years from now), I can see Campbell bring on par with Reid. You may see them interchangeable, in and out of the lineup, come playoff time.

You're correct. I don't think first round picks though. Usually later picks.

No way you can sell now with the way the team is playing! What kind of message does that send the team if you start selling? "Good job boys! You're the best team in the league but because we bought when we were a 9th place team last year, we have to trade some of you."

Sometimes you just catch lightning in a bottle. Much like the Vegas Knights in their first season. Their initial plan was to trade some of the players that they had accumulated in the expansion draft for picks, but once they started winning, they enjoyed the ride all the way to Stanley Cup final.
I'm not saying they should sell, I'm just stating regardless of which way things go this year Jussi has to be the best coach in the league relative to the team I saw last year.

So…what does this trade mean? Start of sell? Import improvement trade coming? Kivijarhu or Pobezal coming? I mean if we lose Hamara and 1 of Motew or Schmidt we can’t really go for it. That 2 of our top 5 dman out. What is the next transaction to happen? I’m actually shocked at the trade. I’ve been on the sell train all season until Schmidt came back then I hoped on the “last give this another month” train to see what this team does.

Hamara traded to Brantford for OS 3rd in 2024 and BFD 4th in 2027.
Any chance this means the Rangers have convinced their first round import pick Tomas Pobezal to report? He would add to the forward depth and this would allow Campbell and Reid to still get ice time,

I'm guessing clearing the way for a substantial import. The return wasn't overwhelming.

If that's the case I'm guessing we're going to land Beck for one of our 16 year olds in January.

Hamara is a plus 13 defenseman. Thought they would have gotten a bit more. Hunter would have skinned another GM alive. He once sold a 3 legged pig to another farmer down the road from his farm. Farmer said why does it only have 3 legs/ Mark told him when you get a pig this good you don't eat him all at once.

I think there will be a second trade coming with Kitchener sooner rather than later. I would trade Martin as the last OA spot.

Andonovski - Brzustewicz
Reid - Motew
Schmidt - Campbell
Scott

That would be a really solid defence core.

Kiviharju is injured and I can’t see a scenario where he would come here this season. Pobezal is not in his draft year yet so I can’t see a kid that young moving here unless he would be assured prime opportunities.

My guess is Kitchener uses those picks from Hamara to trade for an import forward. Rangers are more thin up front and could use depth there more. I don’t expect much of an impact player but more of a third line kind of player.

Habs this could be the scenario. Will they bother with another import? Rangers have a couple of lines that can score but the bottom end as it is on most teams is lacking in the scoring department. No one has a crystal ball. It's anyone's guess what MM will come up with going forward. I was surprised by this recent trade. Kind of came out of left field.
