Hey Even he averaged 6.9min/game..... The top forward had 25 goals with 3x the ice and played with top talent.... you do the math.

Just did the math. According to the info you've provided, Davies, under the same circumstances the top forward played under, would have scored 36 goals. Wow!

I guess that gets him top line minutes at the Aud.

I know our power play has been clicking and Mascherin is continually setting up guys for one timers but that should be reversed and Mascherin should be the one taking the one timer. He has such a quick release and hard shot and a lot of his set ups are missed or the guys take too long to shot. That 5 minute power play with at 2 minute included was obvious that he should be the shooter. I also don't think MacInnis should be used on the point, why not Roberts who sees the ice, has the patience and has the speed to keep the puck alive. Just my opinion.

I don't like a forward on the PP either. It's not like we don't have the talent on the back end to ice two d-men on each PP unit. Hora, Sergeev, and Blaisdell have all been used on the PP. This year DiPerna as well. And Roberts should get PP time as well.

But that's not the objective. The issue is that we have too many forwards looking for PP time. MacInnis, Mascherin, Llewellyn, Franzen, Henderson, Robinson and Bunnaman all saw time on the top 2 PP units tonight. And had Miller and Magyar been healthy, they'd be looking for it too. It's a lot easier for the coaching staff to go with a forward on the point and tell a d-man to take a seat than having to tell one of these forwards, who all deserve PP time, to do without.

Whatever way you cut it, a sniper should be shooting not setting up all the time.

Isn't our power play ranked number one. Always nice to change things up but they are number one for a reason

Can't get higher than number one unless there is one in another dimension:) It's great to have options though. When Magyar and Miller get back the team will be able to hopefully get a couple of strong lines going on the PP.

Sadowy would be a pretty good sniper pick up if available at the deadline. Saginaw will likely be selling at some point. Would cost though.

It would be great if Bracco jumped ship from the NCAA after the WJC.

Credit where credit's due, two guys the Rangers really needed to step up this year have answered the bell: Mascherin tied for 4th in OHL scoring, and MacInnis is 9th. While this is a talented squad, I don't think many expected a start of this magnitude. They won't stay undefeated all year, so let's hope the inevitable regression is pretty small.

It sounds like Mascherin's going to be out for at least a bit. He's been so dominant that it is something that could cause a bit of "regression" for a few games. They haven't gone through an insane part of the schedule yet, so they've been able to manage with all the injuries that have happened. I think there's enough talent on the team to keep the undefeated streak going for the next two weekends. It's the 4 games in 6 days in the middle of November where there might be a regulation loss. The Saginaw rematch on the Friday and the Erie game on the Sunday should be awesome to watch.

Credit where credit's due, .......................

and I'm getting served up some of Bobbers favourite cuisine here of Crow....my credit where credit is due nominees is Mike van Ryn, Jay McKee and Daniel Tkachuk.
Of course this only lasts till the Rangers lose a game either in regulation, overtime or a shoot-out.
With the injuries to the forwards (Mascherin, Davies, McHugh and Miller) will we start seeing more guest appearances of Greg Meireles on for weekend games?

Yeah, the injuries will catch up to them at some point. It's a good thing they have so much depth at forward, when at the start of the season we were discussing how a trade would have to be made.

My contribution: Dylan DiPerna. I thought he was reaching bust territory, but he's been a rock this season so far.

I thought the refs missed calling a penalty on the Mascherin incident. They also missed a head check on Baby Joe that started a scrum that left the Rangers short again. Saginaw is coached on cheap shots IMO.

Kudo's and I applaud you for pointing it out about the coaching staff!

I too agree and join your Crow dinner. I feel that has been one of the biggest changes on the ice this year so far. The approach to a complete 200 foot game and effort. As well as the systems in place.

Steady goaltending also makes a difference. We have seen that in the second half last year with Patterson and this year with Opilka.

I do feel though we have had a bit of an easier schedule to start the year. We have seen tougher teams like Barrie, Windsor and Peterborough but have not seen the likes of London and Erie yet.

Back (with new username) after some account issues, but also wanted to commend the changes the new coaching staff have implemented.

I was one who expressed a lot of concern with hiring another assistant, but I was optimistic that they brought in credible assistants. From day one of training camp, I could see some key differences.

First and foremost, they are allowing creativity. Players are being encouraged to use their eyes and make plays as they enter the zone. The mindless chip-and-chase of Smith is hopefully a thing of the past that will never be seen again. Any sane hockey mind could see you don't tell players like Mascherin to play that way.

Secondly, there is more tempo to the game. The team was skating in quick-sand last year and never had the pace to push opponents. Now they're doing much more at high speed and the they're catching up to the game. Last year they couldn't complete a 5-foot pass. This year, they're completing 20-foot passes at full speed. Clearly, the practices have changed.

Finally, player usage. They're using their eyes and seeing that players like DiPerna flourish when allowed to skate and be assertive. A DiPerna who languishes on the bench or is told to react all game is a much weaker player.

Granted it's early and I know they'll hit blips, but I like what I see. I still think a few moves need to be made to gain another scoring forward.

As for yesterday, I also thought the refs missed a few blatant calls early. The one on Mascherin was a dumb, dumb play by Petschenig.

So much for the idea that Meireles filling in for the injured players....forgot he's away with Elijah Roberts for the U17. :help:
Unless some players make a miraculous recovery shall we see a Scott Del Zotto other B players make an appearance or two?

I kinda figured we would see Del Zotto or Raphael Lecours.

If not I could see DiPerna playing forward again. Thought he played a steady game on forward.

DiPerna did play well at forward all things considering, but at the end of the day the OHL is a development league. He should be on D if he wants to play after his junior career. Unless he is actually keeping his NCAA options open, DelZotto should get a shot this weekend.

Now Mason Kohn is a member of the walking wounded.
The Rangers will be down 8 players for this weekend games (counting Meireles as one of the 8 since he would've been called up if not for the U17)

Yes and I am one of the most vocal about developing our own, but if mgmt feels that Del Zotto is not ready and they do not want to burn a card on Lecours (if they need to due to injury???) then I don't see a problem in DiPerna playing a few games on forward. IIRC Dan Kelly played some games on forward for us once upon a time and it didn't hurt his development.

Rangers Draft Pick Mitch Rooney is in Waterloo with the Siskins and has put together a decent campaign so far on a bad team.

8 points so far playing in a secondary role with the team.

5 points in his last 4 games.

Decent size and is still only a 98 born.

I'd keep guys like Del Zotto with the hawks for the season as it's his first season of Jr Hockey and is still only a 99 born.

Where as Rooney, he played Jr A last year. In the area this year because the Rangers wanted to monitor him. Good chance to see what kind of player you have in him. He kind of remind me of Andrew Crezcenzi (Sorry, spelling).

Only saw him a bit in prior camps. Does he not have a bit of an edge too?

He does,

He isn't afraid to mix it up. He has been playing fairly responsible down in Jr B this year but he's someone who will drive to the net, finishes his checks and isn't afraid to drop the mits either

Given our situation, I say might as well give him a look. Literally half our starting forward lineup is out. No better time.
