Rebuilding is about losing, the more the better, period. The NHL is structured to reward the biggest losers the most, we all know this, it's not rocket surgery.

You should write a book about how failing as much as possible leads to success.

Rocket Surgery would be the perfect title for this.

Dach is just an enigma

I can remember numerous times of him refusing to put the puck on the net from the slot or a clear scoring chance. No one inbetween him and the goal.

There’s a difference between pass first and low IQ player. I slowly went from thinking the former to the latter.

He has all the tools but he doesn’t strike me as a guy who puts it together

this thread is embarrassing.. he's basically played a handful of games over the last 18 months. No one knows what he is yet.
imo, at worst he's a top 6 winger with size - if he can't play consistently at C - which as mentioned, he's not in game shape yet.
Injuries remain a concern, but let's see.
Way too early to give up on him, or newhook for that matter.
Some fellow habs fans losing their f***ing minds over a 4-5-1 start which is the same record as like 4 other teams in the Atlantic

Debatable, the kid did play over 200 games before this season.

Maybe you don't know what he is, but many do, Kyle Davidson amongst them. He's a walking band-aid, kid's showed it since day one, why else would the Hawks move on from a #3 overall so quickly. Davidson was just showing he has bigger balls and brains than Hughes and most of the Habs fan base

Montreal isn't trading him. He's getting the year to re-adjust back in as he's penciled in as the medium-long term 2C and if he can't stick there he'll still be around to play on the wing until at least the end of his current contract (he has 1 more year of RFA eligibilty after his contract expires at the end of next year).

Absent some contrived situation where a perfect 1 for 1 fit for an RHD of comparable pedigree/age emerges he's worth more to Montreal than any other team would be willing to pay.

No reason to move Kirby
To the point and true.

Dach is a big dude. The bigger players can take a little longer to develop, even if he doesn't play a power forward style of game. Losing a year of development at his age is also huge.

While they different type of players the Wild's Marco Rossi is actually a good comparable when it comes to developmental trajectory. Both basically lost a year of development due to injury/health. Both were also coming up during Covid. Rossi broke out last year, as some of us were also starting to see Rossi as a bust. He's our default #1C between Zucchini Kaps this year.

He may not be that big top6 center as was envisioned with him, but they got something with him. Might as well see what he can become.

Unfortunately for Kirby his main issue is staying healthy. Hawks didn’t help him by playing him at 18. And then his unfortunate wrist injury in his second season.
Montreal has nothing but time with him. Signed this and next year. Rfa afterwards, then they can make a long term view.

That was also Rossi's problem initially to an extent. Granted it does seem like Dach's injury history is little more extensive.

I just really hope Dach gets it all together looks like a justified top5 pick to shove in the Blackhawks face.

Don’t think the hawks and Kirby ended badly at all. Hawks went for a scorched earth rebuild and he got a nice secure deal with the habs.
