Habs, draft picks, traded draft picks have been awesome over the years...always praying for miracle players. Same old idiots running the show in MTL. If Ghule doesnt work out we in trouble.

Hey, KK & Galchy got drafted at 3ovr for a reason too!

KK was a reach and we all knew it. So was Hayton, and look how that turned out. It was an incredibly weak draft, but Montreal passed on Tkachuk and Hughes to draft a C.

Galchenyuk was a weird situation - his injury is likely why he slid to 3 to begin with, and when he came into the NHL I would argue he was great ... he scored 30 goals for us at one point and played as our 1C. I think if we could have 18 y/o Chucky back with the MSL regime and his family weren't in the picture to taint his progress, he could have been an elite player. His issue was never his skill IMO it's all between the ears.
Imagine taking Dach before Caufield, Boldy, Zegras… lmao

The point I am making is Dach definitely has tremendous upside and we have seen a lot of young players excel under MSL's tutelage so I am confident.

These guys are ripping up the NHL and Dach is already traded

Dach was the only one to be rushed to the NHL and the only one who had a season ending injury that led to wrist-surgery to be fair.

Nazar and others interesting prospect were available at 13th oa. I guess they are really high on Dach. Hopefully he is at least a 2C

I’m septic but we’ll see how it goes I guess

I will say this, the club must be incredibly confident in its player development ability. Dach still has plenty of upside but Hughes just bet the future on a rehab project everything had gone wrong for and the worst statistical first round overall pick in history. It's an interesting strategy I'll give them that.

His score must've been high in the Team 33 tool!

The Athletic on the trade

It’s a handful, but the Canadiens got the player with the highest upside here, and the draft capital needed to acquire him wasn’t all that steep. Dach hasn’t shown nearly as much as many expected yet, but at 21 he’s still young and still has top-six upside. He’s not that yet and could very well bust, but one of his top comparables at the same age is Sean Couturier, an extremely promising proposition for the Canadiens. Dach has other less enticing comparables that bring pause but considering his pedigree he’s a smart bet.

For the other two teams involved – I have questions.

The Islanders essentially traded a first-round pick for Romanov, a player whose stock has plummeted after a horrific sophomore season. He’s shown less than nothing at the NHL level to be worth that price tag and it feels like Montreal is taking advantage of his previously high pedigree. While Romanov has some intriguing comparables of his own, none has the upside of Couturier and most became busts. I’m a skeptic, especially at that price tag.

The Blackhawks … I mean, woof. I could at least see why the team would trade Alex DeBrincat – they needed to get bad enough to tank, the qualifying offer, being two years away from free agency, and his age. Dach? How do you not keep a 21-year-old center with size drafted just three years ago? For 13th? It’s bad asset management, an all too common trend for the Blackhawks on draft day these days.

Canadiens: A
Islanders: C
Blackhawks: D

Don't we already have an underperforming 3rd overall center with wrist issues? I think they're playing the odds; one will pan out eventually.

Huh, I've reread the trade a few times. Montreal didn't give up 4 assets guys, only 2, the 13th and 66th. Romanov and the 93rd were traded to NYI. It's an easy misunderstanding, I know.
We traded Romanov + 3rd + 4th for Dach. When read correctly in trade terms this is a legit equal swap with high upside, and a new style of depth at 2C.

Slaf - Dach - Caufield

Average height: 6ft1

Caufield should have been drafted 1st at this height!
