What would be the max you'd give for a C a notch under Suzuki though (say a Mittelstadt level)?

Well that would depends on the age and type of contract the guy have. Not looking for a quickfix/stopgap, but I wouldn't be worried about paying the price for someone that would play ±5 years for us.

For me the issue is he isn’t good enough defensively for a bottom 6 role so he needs to be top 6. To be top 6 you need to produce. So I need to see points and compete. Laine should be back next week but the rest of the season is make or break for me. Needs to finish strong

A big part of his game was his physicality. Skills + grit made him special. He was hitting much more than he does now. You would see Ds from the other teams being in jeopardy with a good hit by him which would lead to scoring chances. I know why he does it less, cause he is afraid of getting hurt. But until he start doing that again, he will be lost and won't be effective. So I will be confident in him when he bring back that physicality. It starts and ends with it.

I'm not ready to drop the towel with him because I know the solution for him to get better is simple. And if he does it then he will be such an asset for us cause power forwards with size don't grow on trees.

For the record, he had 53 hits 2 years ago. Dunno if today's game is part of numbers but he already has 47 so far.

All I heard was that he was to be the second line centre. So, if he did struggle coming back (which is not uncommon), what was their Plan B?

Meanwhile, the coach and players are left to face the media after every game and what is looking like another l o n g season.

He wasn't nearly as bad as he is now but he was still clearly getting carried by our actual good players.

A knee/ankle injury with a year off will do that to you.



Dach plays with an edge. He used to play with pace and emotion. He's big body who likes to drive to the net. We've seen flashes of it this year. Nobody must be more pissed at the situation than himself im certain of it. He overcame so much to be here, I know he's boiling inside. My gut says after the holiday break he'll start to put it together.

Nothing wrong with looking for a 2nd line center at this point. That being said, he’s got too much potential to just give up on. So look for an alternative and keep him hoping he can figure things out.

It’s not surprising he’s taking so much crap here. He hasn’t played well and a lot of folks have zero patience. We saw it with Caufield last year. How often did we read that he was lazy and should be traded? All the time…

Dach’s in a different situation of course and the two situations aren’t the same. But it goes to show you that if people has no patience for a guy like Caufield they certainly aren’t going to cut Dach any slack.

I mean we had people who bashed Carey Price for years…

I look at all of the challenges that Don Waddell has had to deal with in Columbus in the few months he has been there. Good management tries to find solutions to help and improve their roster. No idea what Gorton & Hughes plan is other than leaving young players to progress. And when that isn't happening...who knows.

He ain't changing his ways. He had a year to improve his IQ (studying) and he did nothing- just worried about his knee.. yet another gifted athlete who has not an ounce of drive to differentiate himself from his peers.

Shame really, but fully expected - todays pro is as soft as they come.. will get worse too. No work ethic.

If anyone in here is in charge of hiring, then "we" all know what the current market is. This Gen is brutal..

He's being proactive to whatever has come up. He hasn't been there very long so naturally it's not his team yet. Habs management is either patient, stubborn or oblivious to their current roster depending on one's viewpoint. We may have a clearer picture by next season.

Ovechkin had nearly identical seasons with a +/- 40 point difference.
