I can agree with your assessment of his game right now, but your conclusion is ridiculous.

It's very clear the Habs are in a phase of their rebuild where they can afford to be patient. They don't need to move on from anyone. If Buffalo moved on from 23 year old Tage Thompson, it would have been an incredible mistake. Of course it's unlikely Dach ends up as good of a player, but even that slim chance is worth taking because the Habs have nothing to gain from not rolling that dice. The trade is done, the gamble has been made already. They need to see it through.

My main problem with Dach is that he is playing like a guy afraid of getting injured again. He's not banging along the boards like a guy his size should be. His offensive calling cards are silky hands and good vision, and I feel like in order to make the most of those skills, he needs to become a dominant, physical puck protector and board player, à la Joe Thornton.

Let's hope he regains that physical edge as he becomes more confident that his body can take a hit.
I’m not concluding much except that as the consumer of their product I want to see nhl players on the ice and “wannabe’s” like rookies and guys coming back from injury to have and try and get their spot back. Handing a guy the 2c role because he’ll be good at it maybe in 3-4 years is a complete disregard for the actual consumers.

My timeline is I was going to watch hockey tonight and woke up thinking I’m wasting my time anticipating really crappy entertainment. I’m happy for the habs and Dach they are content with their own timeline I guess?

Spending his entire career never having to outplay anyone for a spot can’t be good either for sure. Ahl?

Back at center when he got Newhook and Armia.

That combination is a soul sucking, play killing entity that Marty loves.

Let's see how he does without that ghastly duo shackled to him down the middle.
Who is responsible for the line combinations? that is the person to hold accountable to explain those decisions.

They won when he was wing right?

They got their asses handed to them when he was center?

It's a sign.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

What do Galchenyuk, Drouin, Kotkaniemi and Dach have in common ?
Seems like all 4 had top 6 centre expectations at one point. That position is hard to fill, players are expected to provide consistent offence, while being good defensively.

Not that any of these four compares remotely to him, but Bobby Hull played his first few years in the NHL as a centre. Didn't become a star until he moved to the wing. Many centres end up on the wing.

Wasn't this guy a sure top 6 C on our dynasty cup team?

This is why y'all need to chill and show more patience before setting expectations on habs players, that includes going to talk crazy on the trade and main boards on Dach.

Dach needs to show some big improvements, wing or C.................13 games in, and nothing yet, so he needs to be better, much better. Coming back from knee surgery is a tough one, but by game 20 the habs need to see him moving up in the stats categories.
Pretty disappointing so far.
He is hardly the only guy on the team who needs a kick in the arse......

We need to know if he's a 2nd C. It's ridiculous that he's on the wing. What are we losing by having him at C? Jesus christ...
He'll get back to the center position when he shows he's ready and even the most ardent Dach fan should be able to see he isn't there yet.
We are talking about a guy who was a PPG winger before being converted to a center two seasons ago.
Let's get him back to producing at that level again before we move him shall we...

Ready for what? How is he getting ready by playing wing? Why do we need him to be ready ? This team is 1 point away from last place in the league.

We need to know if the 2nd line C position needs to be adressed, not if he's a PPG winger. That's such a weird situation.

Ready to play at an NHL level productively.
There's nothing to argue about Dach has been shit at center pure unadulterated shit.
Would you prefer we slot him in at 4C because that is where his play currently ranks at that position.

Nah. He looked great and I was really excited about him coming in last year. Expected a great season from him.

Injuries are a variable you can’t control. He’s looked rusty as hell from the games I’ve seen and the whole team looks bad.

Most knew he’d need some time to get back properly. But it should be noted that the entire lineup isn’t playing well. Cc has a bunch of goals but is nowhere near where he was shot wise. His and Suzuki’s numbers are off analytically. It’s not just one player.

When he was center all I read was he’s “rusty” and he has bad line mates. It wasn’t answering any questions.

He can continue to kick off the rust on the wing, and they can time his return to center around Laine’s return.

I don't understand what your point is. We have Newhook Evans and Dvorak at C right now man.

Were not winning tonight, this week, this month or probably this decade. Use your assets in the assets you think they'll be in.

How do we know if we need to go get a 2nd line C this summer if we don't try Dach extensively ?

Hence leave him there and let him simmer. Throw him in the pool and see if he can swim. We need to know if he's cut out to be a 2nd line C or not. I don't care if he's good or not.

How many times do we go through this? A player has some major injury, is out the season, comes back and lo and behold, isn't as good as before and takes quite some time to get back to where they were before. It's only been 13 games. Give the guy a break. Why do people keep on thinking he's going to play at 100% as soon as he's back? It may take another 20 games, 40 games, 60 games, 80 games, etc. Just like most fans have no patience for a rebuild, they also seem to have no patience for guys returning from injury.

Regardless of who his linemates are, one of the fears was always that dach was going to come back from that lost season and lose his game in the process.

You can't tell me this is the same guy who played before that injury. Hopefully, it's just a matter of time that he can get back to being Kirby dach and then take those steps which he looked very capable of doing in becoming a key contributor down the middle for the club.

I’d be more concerned about Dach if it was just him as an individual. But the whole team isn’t playing well.
