Dach confesses he almost gave up everything!

At a certain point, for a reason impossible to explain, the Blackhawks asked him to become a third-line defensive player. Excuse me?

They wanted to make him a 100% defensive player and they no longer allowed him to create offensively, according to Kirby's own words.

It literally broke his heart.

He really would have liked a bigger role in the lineup, but the Hawks didn't want to hear anything about it. He really felt that Chicago turned its back on him for no reason.

"There were too many things happening at the same time. Those were dark times and I wondered if I was capable of continuing. Hockey became boring because that's not the player I am. I am not just a defensive center." - Kirby Dach

You can feel his emotion when he talks about it. He then mentions that sometimes, he simply didn't feel like playing hockey anymore and he almost gave up.

Let's just say that his trade to the Montreal Canadiens was possibly the best news of his career.

He adds that playing for a head coach like Martin St-Louis is really special for him.

Clearly, he adores Martin.

"When he placed me on the 1st line with Caufield and Suzuki, it helped me a lot, but a lot, to regain confidence." - Kirby Dach

As for his current injury, Kirby mentions that he is still progressing at the moment and that it helps him a lot to see the "game" from above and to analyze everything.

This kid is going to be a monster for us.. this will hopefully be the last bad luck injury for him.

Thanks for this. I posted it in the MSL thread too.

Love this guy. I really hope he can come back 100 percent. If he can, he could be our best center. Love this guy.

I almost forget we have this kid. Really hope the injuries don’t keep piling up. A potentially huge part of our success going forward. Best of luck, Kirby!

I do hope he comes back better than ever, but man if his awful injury luck continues we gotta look for another center as a longterm replacement.
It would be so frustrating because it was such a killer trade. To find such a huge piece and not even give up that much to get him. Ticks so many boxes with huge potential only to never get it going because of injuries. We’d be truly cursed.

I feel good about his future. Doesn’t seem like anything’s recurring and it’s just been horrid luck. Unless he just glass all over.

The hit didn’t even look that bad… really weird.

He in no way implied that he remotely contemplated giving up on his NHL career. Reading comprehension/paraphrasing and context are enormous problems with the vast majority of sports fans.

Ya reading comprehension does seem to be a problem for some.

I'm good with the trade but Romanov-Dobson is one of the best 1st pairings in the entire league

Right. And I really like Romanov as a player, but Dobson is the special player out of the two.

Fwiw, Dobson was the guy I wanted at 3rd overall in the KK draft. Now, granted Q. Hughes or B. Tkachuk would have arguably been better picks, but Montreal would have been very happy with Dobson also.

you are reading paraphrased material....

Dach/Suzuki isn't Crosby/Malkin but having a solid duo is something that has long eluded the habs until the cup finals a few years ago. Dach's draft pedigree and his unteachable size to me means that it is perfectly reasonable to say Dach can surpass Suzuki as 1C.

Only injuries worry me with Dach. I hope he can come back 100% and put injuries behind him.

Montreal will not be built like the Penguins, the Leafs or the Oilers. There won't be superstars on the roster, but a solid deep team at all positions much like the Canes. It works also. Salaries are lower, team is more balanced.

It would be nice to draft a good offensive player this draft. Then, with proper development, we may be looking good earlier than later.

Kind of shows why culture can be so important during a rebuild. If your top pick(s) come in and within after a few years doesn't like coming to the rink everyday that's a major issue, and it's a mistake to assume it's a player issue.

There could very well be a superstar on the roster. It may not be evident yet but Caufield, Hutson, Slaf +? Let’s wait to see what they can do.

Superstars aren’t always immediately obvious but we’ve got players with great potential. Give it some time.

Sure. I am willing. However, my comparison with the Canes mean that Aho and Svechnikov are not superstars. I think we have players that can be just as good as those two guys, but I doubt they will be better.

Slaf is a bit of a wildcard since we can't know exactly where the ceiling is ATM, but it does not seem reasonable to expect more of a star player than Aho/Svechnikov.

People thought Price was a mediocre pick. Nobody thought Subban would be a superstar…

CC could be a 50 goal guy, Hutson’s breaking records, Slaf has all the tools. Yes we have guys who could be better than Aho. It’s just that we don’t know if we do or not yet.
