Player Discussion Kirby Dach (Part 3): TabarDach Edition!

Ah f***. The sycophant saying this means expect nothing this summer.

This is with hindsight knowing he did not progress. The Hawks had no access to any of that hindsight. He was 20 years old in his last season in Chicago so he could have progressed. They went with the pick and made sure to finish last.

Also Dach in 2022-23 would have finished 4th scorer of the Blackhawks only 2 points away from the 3rd scorer Athanasiou and he played only 58 games while Anthanasiou played 81. So let that sink in about how bad that team was and how they made sure it would be that bad.
Very unlikely Dach gets 38 points with the Hawks that year, he could have very well had less than 35 points in 80 games since Chicago scored 28 less goals. I will also add to this that if Tyler Johnson and Jonatha
Toews played a full season, they would have passed him, putting him 8 in place on Chicago for points producers.

Dach was a non factor in Chicago tanking. They saw what kind of guy he is. You don’t trade a 6’4” 210+ pounds, 21 years old, 3 seasons removed from being a 3rd overall pick, with decent skills unless his hockey IQ is absolutely terrible or is work ethics are terrible.

Trying to impart rational logic into Chicago's decisions during those years is like trying to understand POTUS's global trade strategy...waste of time! They made questionable decisions as they were in a PR sh*tstorm and a crumbling organization. Scorched earth strategy.

I just don't know if Dach is a center or not. For the last couple of seasons he's played his best hockey on the wing.

I'm starting to accept the fact that we're going into next season without a proper 2C. We'll have guys competing for the spot in camp, and it's unlikely anyone will actually be what we need there to have a capable 2nd line.

Oodles of talent............but can't stay healthy. Question is why? The guy doesn't seem to take it all seriously? Can't protect himself from crazy injuries?
He is now playing for his next contract..........this in itself should set off his alarm and prove to everyone he is an NHL player.........again, loads of talent, but not so much between the ears????

Or...........is he just unlucky? As a fan of his, I want him to get going, and see this work.
I don't see how you can look at injuries and then draw the conclusion that he doesn't take it all seriously. Did Saku Koivu not take things seriously because of all the early injuries in his career? How about Markov when he spent a good chunk of years barely playing because of injuries? How about Guhle, does his injury history mean he doesn't take being an NHLer seriously?

Now you could certainly argue he's not doing a good job protecting himself and/or his playstyle leads to injuries. But neither of those things mean he doesn't take things seriously.

If Dach was truly serious he would spend this summer in Montreal rehabilitating. Whatever he did last summer didn't work.

I agree completely. This is what Struble and Anderson did. Struble won a spot despite everything against him and Anderson was great all year. Even Laine is staying for the summer.

Nah, Basu always does on his own premise. He feels like he has the necessity to keep expectations low.

The classic new age "journalist", a voluntary activist rather than a journalist.

Or maybe he’s just giving his opinion.

What he’s saying makes sense. The market is tough this summer and Montreal may not come out of it with a 2c.

As for Dach being our most pivotal player - I can see it from the standpoint that we don’t have much else there.

Us having to bank on Dach this year would really suck though. Love the guy. I think he’d be perfect, but he can’t stay healthy. And I agree that his career hangs in the balance this year. If he gets hurt again or has a bad year… his NHL career may be done.

He played his best hockey at center. His best hockey came in the 2nd half of his 1st season with the habs. He was playing center.

I don’t mind the article. Dach is the one player who could be a difference maker as 2C if the stars align.

The 2C market this offseason is sparse and very unlikely we will get a 2C that fits the team’s competitive window. Next season things might open up.

By default, Dach is the only player with 2C potential on the Habs.

Sad but true.

Dach has a lot of qualities we're looking for in a top 6 player and we gave up a good asset for him. I expect him to keep getting every opportunity. He'll have a great summer and come in to camp in great shape I'm sure. Hope he shuts a lot of people up next year.

He showed up out of shape last season for game 1...................that's not taking it seriously.........I am a fan of this kid, but showing up not ready and being awful on his side of centre for almost every game...........time is running out.

Then stick with that argument and don't try to claim suffering multiple injuries are evidence because they aren't.

And from what I recall of the whole "out of shape" argument was that it wasn't reported on when training camp actually happened and was only brought up in like November/December when he was struggling badly, which is kind of suspicious. Also from what Dach or maybe Gorton said the issue was that he trained the wrong things. No details were really provided, but for example it's possible Dach focused on strength but ignored explosiveness, which means being slower. There's a big difference between training the wrong things and be lazy and not training, as an example one of Subban's problems was arguably training the wrong things and bulking up but losing mobility because of it. It's not a sign of laziness or not taking things seriously. On top of which we've seen countless examples of players taking a full year to really get back to themselves after a serious injury, they weren't all lazy, some injuries take a long time to get back into game shape even when you are "healthy" and can play/train.
