I think any team could use a Romanov, though he isn't specifically one of their biggest needs. Take Nazar out of their prospect pool and their forward corps seems a little thin on dynamic, somewhat proven forward types.

Nazar has 4pts in his last 5gp and he's putting it together. On an awful team if he can squeeze a 40pt season as a rookie (currently pacing for 37), who would turn that down?

On Dach:

Prior to going down with another injury, we were told often enough that Dach has been enjoying a resurgence. Hockey-reference lumps games in 20gp chunks, Dach's last 20gp chunk was game 41-57 (when he went down). He had 8 pts in 17gp (a 38pt pace) and 1.17 shots on goal in 15min ice time per game. Imagine, this is supposed to be Dach's best span of the season and it's a paltry 38pt pace. This has been a disaster of a season for him.

And getting another injury is just rotten luck. Hopefully he can rehab and recover over summer and surprise everyone.

Start Dach out as 3rd line winger next season. If he can stay healthy, and plays well may move him up. Habs severely needs #2 center next year. Can't rely on Dach to fill the role

Muffin of a shot and no finish. Seems to lack hockey sense as well. I’m for giving him a chance to redeem himself, but going forward I do not rely on Kirby to be a positive contributor to this team. If he surprises great, we’re up a piece.

As for Nazar, we don't need another 5'10" forward.

I didn’t mind the approach at the time. Dach wouldn’t have been the horse I bet on, but I I liked the approach. Sake as newhook

Hage is important to us due to our barren C prospect depth but playmaking C prospects but Playmaking Cs are the least rare in prospect pools. It’s just many many of them never step up.

I guess it’s undeniable Dach’s busting is painful, as would be Hage’s.

Yes.

Lots of seemingly good players get drafted. On average, the Habs draft seven promising players every year, I'm guessing an average of two centers.

But the very best predictor historically seems to be how they do in their D+1, D+2, D+3, etc. If they progress and don't get injured every five minutes, then things look rosy.

Yes they would. They let Dylan Strome walk for nothing. AGAIN i repeat they did not qualify Dylan Strome and let him walk for nothing. People should stop with this Hawks management is genius BS.

Big physical skilled centers are coveted by everyone. Losing him sucks. He was never healthy enough to put it together for an extended period of time. He joins the ranks of the coulda-beens and it’s f***ing sad.

Anyways, what was a ‘we will look for a depth center’ has now become an acute need. At minimum we need a bridge player between Hage.

I’m not sure why this keep coming up.

They badly mismanaged his wrist injury. Full stop. Dach was pissed with them and it was a sour situation. There’s no ‘hidden agenda’ the Hawks just f***ed up.

Great trade for us. Should’ve worked out but it didn’t. Habs did their homework on his wrist and were proven right. Then he had a devastating knee injury and now can’t stay healthy.

That’s the way things go.

I feel terrible for him and us. But that’s hockey. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. So we move on. Dach can still be in the lineup and we pray for some kind of recovery but we count on him for absolutely nothing going forward. At this point he probably just wants to salvage an NHL career.

I'm watching the Rangers vs Preds and Barron should be forward because he isn't cut out for NHL defense. He has good hands and can skate and seriously should be a forward.

I watched that game too. I think O'Reilly would be good 2C for this team. I thought he has lost a step, but no he played strong game. Granlund would be another good option.

Dach wasn’t 5x the prospect Hage was. He just happened to be a 6’4 RH centre so he was taken high. But his numbers were quite pedestrian for a Top 3 pick.

A combination of his size and the fact scouts couldn’t really decide who, other than Hughes, was a standout on that incredible USNDTP team.

I liked the acquisition of Dach at the time and although he is still young Montreal needs to make room for some young prospects going forward. Trading Dach along with Dvorak and their salary now may free up the cap space to overpay a little on Evans and Armia. This would have minimal impact on our playoff run and get rid of a lot expenses.

It is.

It also doesn't help in our (my) confidence in Hughes/Gorton. They might have hit some homeruns in Demidov and Hutson. But, a Stanley Cup team usually needs to hit multiple times (Makar, Burakovsky, Kadri, Toews, Nischushkin, Rantanen and etc...). There's also a limit to the amount of time a management team has before their key players arent in their primes anymore. Truth is Dach needed to hit and it looked like he did, but he only ended up confirming his injury prone tag. This summer would be a good time for management to acquire an undervalued player who flourishes, like Colorado and Florida have multiple times.

Seeing as the post got moderated before I even had a chance to read its original splendor, I can guess my post did "get him". It was a ridiculous post that only needed its own author to completely and utterly invalidate it. No sense in engaging it further. I do think though that Dach getting injured, coming in looking out of shape and losing another season has delayed the rebuild rather than accelerate it as it was supposed to.
