Kingston Frontenacs 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

Did you watch on TV, because there was 3600 people there
Good start. Just a couple things...

First and foremost. The city of Kingston does not deserve this team. There is no way there was the listed attendance of 3600. Not chance there was even 3000. Thank you Mr. Springer for not having sold the team "yet." We have what some people are saying one of our top 1-3 teams ever and the crowd tonight was pathetic. Yes it was loud in there and the people that were there did a great job to make it seem like more by being loud. To be fair, I'm sure a lot of people may have had tickets or intended to go but held off bc of people going crazy about the worst storm in history coming and media telling people to stay home. Although i get that elderly and people driving with kids would play it safe. Hopefully it's not as bad as they are predicting and they all come Sunday.

Couple small takes from the game. Hayes is one of my faves as most of you know I love the heart and soul guys that do anything to win. But I'm sure he got an ear full from man afterwards. Mann has been preaching about discipline and that type of dumb penalty he took. He had great shift but was tired. Just get off and don't slash someone for no reason way from the play like that. No reason for that. They score on the PP right away and now another quick goal away from making that game really interesting.

Props to Burns for keeping his cool. Mann said in the media that he gave him crap for that similar dumb penalty last week. Tonight in that scrum, Villeneuve suckered Burns hard in the back of the head and Burns didn't even react.

I love bishop as well but he needs to start moving his feet more on the PK to get to loose pucks instead of just standing like a tree. I'm not talking about the goal against, that was just bad luck. Get moving big fella. We need more urgency from you and you have it.

Great start. Out shooting a team by almost double in a game 1 is fantastic. Hopefully the rink is packed Sunday and the boys come out make a statement by pounding them and putting more doubt in them.

Go Fronts.

Only one close game in the other games tonight. Kitchener wins OT.

Anyone who went to the game, can you say if Musty was there in Warmpus? Because he was on the lineup card to take warmups before the game started.
He was listed as “reserve” and did the warm up

I was there Logo. Just because they announce 3600 does not mean that was how many people were there. Like someone else said, even several season ticket holders did not go anticipating bad weather. Also heard that they had comped close to 800 tickets to local big businesses. I'm sure many of those people that took tickets may have also passed on going due to the forecast. All purchased tickets go towards the announced attendance. The eye test told me there was not 3000 people there. Some sections were completely empty. Let's hope for a good turnout tomorrow.

Middle ones pretty full and then the one with the students was full. 116/117/118 very empty you are right. My opinion it looked like around 3000-3200

You guys clearly need a better marketing plan for your team.. big city shitty attendance.. especially with a large university and base that doesn't factor in with ur 140 000 population.

Completely agree. Have been saying it for years and years

Not very affordable for the university/college kids and queens is one of the biggest party schools in Canada so junior hockey isn’t a top priority for a lot of them anyways

Same exact lines today for the Fronts:

Battaglia-Guindon-Uronen
Miedema-Hopkins-Willis
Pickell-Hay-Heyes
Clark-Dervin-Soto

Burns-Bishop
Pieniniemi-Uens
McGowan-Williamson

Schenkel Starts.

The biggest story for tonight's game is Sudbury's changes. Musty in now in the lineup for today's game, as well as Sudbury going for an 11 and 7 setup

What a game.

Both goalies played excellent. Krawchuck is definitely bringing his ‘A’ game. Guindon with 2 goals- love it.

Villeneuve is such a damn good player. Plays like Bennett does in the NHL now(Bennett wasn’t really like this in junior) would love to have villy on the team.

2 down 14 more to go!

Wow.... lots of thoughts to unload after that game

- I don't know what pissed McCoy off so much but he was going after Miedema every single shift they were out there together. Not surprised he ended up getting tossed, he was looking for something all game.
- A little surprised they didn't review the Kearns hit on Hay. Live I thought it looked like a pretty solid forearm shiver to the jaw, but I haven't seen a replay so maybe there was nothing there.
- I didn't have a great angle to see what happened with McGowan and Villeneuve, I just saw him rolling around on the ice only for him to be out there a shift or two later. A little ironic after Walton was making the diving motion after Hay got cross checked in face...
- Uens with a bit of a cheap shot on Musty after the winner, not sure if Musty stepped in front of him but he gave him a pretty solid shoulder check, so he's definitely going to have a target on his back.
- I am genuinely worried that Street is going to hurt someone. The guy diesnt contribute anything other than taking runs at players and spent 5 minutes after the game standing at the Sudbury tunnel trying to stare down anyone that'd look at him.
- That flurry of of saves before the first goal was insane. You just had a feeling it was going to be a goal on that rush down the ice.
- Battaglia might've had the worst game I've ever seen when it comes to getting the puck out of the zone. I lost count of how many times he tried to make an extra move or a risky pass and the puck stayed in, and then when he flips it over the glass leading to the tying goal.
- Dervin didn't play much but didn't shy away from the physical side of the game. Can he not take his cage off? Or is it because of the card he's on that he has to keep the cage on?
- As much as I'd love another home game next Saturday, I hope they sweep up north and rest up for what I can only assume will be Barrie.

Dirty hit by Kearns for sure- should’ve been reviewed for sure and could’ve been tossed.

Villeneuve is a damn good player but he flops on the ice like a fish. Maybe it’s to draw penalties but sometimes he looks like a basketball player out there

Bad decision by him. Especially for how small he is, he will be an easy target.

Guys only job is to run people over and hurt them. Pretty sad Sudbury put him in that place but good for him getting his schooling paid for. I hope McGowan drops him.

I predict they split up there- lose game 3 and come back and win game 5. I originally said fronts in 6 but they’ve way outplayed and outshot these guys this series and Krawchucks play is likely not sustainable at the junior level-playing out of his mind.

I'm going way back to the start of the year but I seem to remember Street trying to jump McGowan in the regular season game in Kingston. I can't remember what started it but they'll have to watch their backs. Kingston needs to improve on the PP. 1/8 so far isn't good enough and I get the feeling they'll have lot of opportunities coming.

That hit on Hay is subject to further review.
The Refs acknowledged at intermission they missed the call after looking at it during the break.

I remember something about that. Hopefully they shed the mitts but Sudbury will take that trade off any day- street is just some 4th line enforcer wannabe. McGowan a top 4 d man.

Their powerplay has been absolutely horrible I’ve been very surprised by how bad they’ve played and same with Uronen who is my fav front but just has not been himself this series. If he wakes up watch out Sudbury!

Our PP has been frustrating but it's harder to score during the playoffs. HC has been putting some odd combinations out when the 1st unit actually comes off the ice.

As to #8, this is now a physical series and there are a few Fronts players who take a step back and don't want to get dirty or use their body. Watch how many times he speaks to the refs about how he feels there should be a penalty called on him when the play is blown dead.

Now he's a target because he won't drop the gloves & he won't work thru some challenging moments.

Line matching won't be easy in Sudbury against their top 2 lines. All Sudbury's offense has been the 1 line, if secondary scoring starts and #30 can continue to make that many saves, this could turn into a great series.

Line matching should be easy in this series in all honestly.
You throw L3 out against Villenue and watch him self destruct.
Pickell is completely fine being a punching bag to draw penalties.

#8 is not there to fight but he definitely isn't afraid to lay the body and can play with an edge when needed.
Kingston has done a great job controlling emotions so far which is a huge plus for the team.
The refs allowing the teams to play yesterday minus the really blatant stuff was nice to see for once although they still did miss a couple pretty blatant infractions.

Villeneuve did not self destruct in yesterday's game, he had 3 points, drew a penalty which I thought was a dive but hey he got the call.

I'm aware #8 is not on the ice to fight, I said he won't drop his gloves which is 2 very different things. When a team knows you won't stick up for yourself, they will go at you harder and his body language suggests somewhere between sulking/frustration.

I missed what happened to Musty at the end of the game live yesterday but watched this video which shows the shove.

I'm not sure why he stayed down on the ice for 30-40 seconds and had the trainer come out?

Uens shoved Musty out of the way as he glided towards Heyes celebrating.
It was mostly Uens being Uens but he may have thought Musty was going to go after Heyes.
It was minimal contact but Musty decided to play dead for some reason it may have been the least psychical contact of the whole game lol.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but what’s up with all our guys getting kicked out of the faceoff dot? Seems every time Hay gets kicked out and has happened to Guindon a lot too.

Funny enough we still lead the series with a 58% face off percentage

Because Veteran faceoff guys like Hay & Guindon often cheat on the faceoff to keep a high %.
Being thrown out doesnt effect their %.
Hay often doesn't take his position when he is asked by the official so gets thrown out ALOT.

How has Charlie looked in goal? Do you see a difference from regular season Charlie to playoff? I know its only been 2 games. Stats look good, but wonder what those watching think.

He's been very good.
No chance on the first goal yesterday - odd man rush 1T
2nd goal his own dman threw the puck at him from the corner unexpectedly and Sudbury player grabs the rebound. - not on him.
3rd goal PP goal he had no chance on.

He's been making all the saves he should be making.
