Lalonde starting IN Oshawa… Oh no…

Better be a real good game. If he gets lit up cooper needs to get someone better.

If the fronts want to do anything in the playoffs chances are they’ll have to go through Oshawa or Barrie.

I can’t understand why Kingston doesn’t go with Betts and Vaccari in net. Especially since dumping Lalonde would open up another OA spot.

The “drop off” from Lalonde to Vaccari/Betts would be no comparison to the upgrade that adding Owen Allard to replace the #12 forward.

100%.

This is why I think inquiring about Bowen in Peterborough makes sense. If the price is wrong then so be it but if the price makes sense? Do it.

Really couldn't imagine Bowen costs that much either. Rye and Johnston need to see the net in Peterborough so the Petes should be ready to take the best offer they can and not run into another Sztuska situation next season

That is my thinking as well. I think maybe a 2nd and 5th is the market price for a capable 19 year old starter with no relative playoff experience. I think that may have more to do with how hard teams are pushing for that type of player though. IF Kingston is the only team calling, then that price may be less and conversely, if there are four teams seriously interested and they all have other OA goalies they’d prefer to strategically switch to skaters, then it could raise the price.

What is going on with this broadcast... No scorebug or announcers... I don't think it's just me because I've seen some others on twitter complaining too

Bowen is no better than Vaccari or Betts. Why would Kingston waste draft picks acquiring a redundant goalie?

Dervin in the lineup tonight along with Mondoux. Lalonde starting with Betts backing up.

Still no McGowan... Anyone have an update? I originally thought it was supposed to be day to day but it's been 2 weeks now, hopefully this isn't turning into an Auston Matthews or Anthony Stolarz day to day lol
MRI was clear but it’s still bothering him.
They are playing it safe as he was in pain the Brantford game when he tried to return.

I really wish Dervin wasn't only playing a game here and a game there this year....what a pass to Miedema to tie the game up on the powerplay

I don’t think that is accurate. Bowen has proven to be a relatively strong goalie. He hasn’t had an opportunity on a stronger team.

He had decent stats on a good London team as a 17 year old. His Save% has been very respectable on back to back horrid Petes teams. Basically the same stats as Leenders on a stronger Brantford team.

Vaccari had an opportunity last year and wasn’t great. Even for a good Kingston team, he hasn’t been great and should be better.

Given the right opportunity, I think Bowen can prove to be an astute acquisition, especially if it frees up an OA spot.

100%

This is the first tie I’ve seen #10 play and I’ve been very impressed. Great skater, nice playmaker.

Why isn’t he in the line up regularly?

He’s playing Prep school and filling in here and there when it doesn’t’ overly conflict with his team schedule. He will finish highschool this year and joint Kingston next year full time.

Played a decent game against Oshawa with them missing Ritchie but Kingston missing McGowan, Pieniniemi and Uronen.

It's tough to see exactly what happened on the goals because the broadcast had no replays but that Marrelli goal absolutely cannot go in from that angle.

I hardly noticed Battaglia out there at all, if they're going to do any damage they need him to step up in games like this.

If Kingston makes the mistake of deciding to buy at the deadline, I’d definitely be targeting Dervin as a return.

I agree I thought it would be a blowout especially with Lalonde playing in Oshawa

Broadcast was horrible lol. Not sure what was up with it.

I agree some games he is invisible. Can’t have that from one of our best players. I’ll still take Guindon and Uronen over him. Battaglia has to step up as we will have him again next year and he will be the guy the first half of next season before he likely gets traded

Malone has struggled badly against Oshawa all year, and tonight was no exception. Two brutal goals that he essentially kicked into his own net.

On the first one, Marrelli was in the corner pretty much behind the red line when he fired at the net and it somehow squeezed between Lalonde’s pads then as he spun around trying to locate the puck the back of his leg knocked it into the net.

On the second one, Owen Griffin chipped the puck towards the net and it fluttered over Lalonde’s shoulder. Once again, he was trying to figure out where the puck was and as he spun around his own skate kicked it into the net.

In a 4-2 game, those two soft goals were backbreaking.

I had mentioned that when they signed him but it doesn’t’ seem like they will be using him in that manner. HE may not waive to go either. HE will get a lot of opportunity next year.

I think the writing is on the wall to sell but will Management and the Coaching staff understand this?
Last year they were buyers when they shouldn't.

There has been some underperformance lately with both certain players and overall team play.

PP is 6th in the league
PK is 8th in the League
Lowest PIMs/Game in the league
3-4-1-2 in last 10 games

Will be interesting to see what happens in the next 10 days before trade deadline, I'm sure other teams are circling smelling blood in the water and asking about some 2005 born.

3/4 week injury time table right from the get go. Was speaking with Tmann through text yesterday and I asked about him. Some stuff shaking up in Kingston should learn about it in the next few days

If Kingston sells at this point the team will never go all in.

Half their team won't be back next year (9 05s and 3 04s). They don't have enough talent to build around the 06s or 07s, and even though it's too early to tell with the 08s not having a first rounder puts them behind the 8 ball meaning were looking at building around the 09s, which assuming they draft well, is at least another 3-4 year rebuild plan.

I get it's a shitty year for everything to come together with London looking unstoppable and Oshawa absolutely dismantling Kingston this year, let alone having Barrie looking potent especially with the rumoured Pinelli add, but if they sell it proves they're content to be a mid-seed team with a playoff round win per year.

Interesting, the Whig mentioned it was day to day but the Oshawa radio guys said he was week to week.

It is not necessarily a buy or sell situation. There is also a strategic sell off of one player and maybe add a couple smaller pieces. They stay competitive, have a strong chance of winning a round and they save face while pushing a few assets forward.

One of the big things the Fronts need to rectify in their market is consistency. I had suggesting int he offseason that making a full blown committment int he offseason isn’t ideal. Test their team. See what they are made of and then make the judgement. They have played well overall. But, it was unlikely they make it out of the 2nd round even if they blow their brains out at the deadline. We were relatively certain about that even in the offseason when things looked more optimistic.

The reality is, they could stay status quo and end up in the same situation as they would if they were to blow their brains out and trade everything not nailed down setting up a massive rebuild next year.

Barrie is the team to beat IMO. Brampton is a bit of a wildcard. They’ve had injuries and we know they are going to make a couple moves. They will likley be there when it matters alter in the season. Oshawa will make a couple moves and likely will be good. We don’t know what Brantford will end up doing but they are in the mix. Sudbury and Niagara may also be in the mix. But, it really is Barrie, Brampton, and OShawa that seem the most likely three in the 2nd round with Kingston right there even if they stand pat. The Fronts are capable of winning a round without needing to make any significant moves at all. That is not a bad thing. Maybe they play Brantford, Sudbury or Niagara in a 50-50 series 4/5 seed? I like Kingston’s chances in that series.

The issue for me is that they'd be pushing assets forward to a significally weaker team. Next year is going to be bad regardless of what they do this year - based on current assets this is what they have in terms of signed players (OA players are my current opinion - very well could change).

BattagliaHopkinsSoto (OA)
Miedema (OA)DervinClark
ShewfeltButtarWeir
McCuaigKelly
McGowan (OA)Williamson
VelliarisMoore
Mondoux
Betts

That is not a good team. Battaglia should be one of the top trade targets for buyers, and possibly Hopkins if they can return a quality '09 since it'll be 1.5 years of Hopkins. They could get a decent haul of picks for some of their other OA-to-bes, and maybe they go in with lesser OAs and move Soto and Miedema before the year and bring back Uens and sometone else.

I know they'll have 2 import picks and 2 first round picks but even with those, that's a team that's fighting for a playoff spot. Their awful drafting in the last couple years is going to start to cost them.

Bottoming out is rarely a path to success but I'm concerned they'll be towards the bottom next year regardless of what they do this year.

If there's moves coming soon based on what AGranderson said I'm sure we'll have an idea what their plan is soon.

I agree with you 100% and I’ve been explaining the exact same thing for months.

There’s little to no chance of getting past Oshawa and Barrie then even if they did it’d be a massacre against London.

It makes infinitely more sense to sell off all the 2005’s who almost assuredly won’t be returning - - Pieniniemi, Uronen, Burns, Miedema - - along with the 2005’s who would never cut it as an OA - - Pickell, Urns, Vaccari - - to focus on next year when Oshawa will be down and out and London will be considerably weaker.

Those guys would bring back a boatload of premium draft picks and young talent.

Technically speaking, they aren’t pushing assets forward. They are simply not depleting more assets. All they would need to do is sell Battaglia at a good return, stay somewhat competitive and keep pushing forward.

If the Fronts want to make a real run this year, they pretty much need to commit to a Peterborough level buy/sell and in this current competitive landscape, doing that doesn’t even give them more than a 50-50 shot at getting to round 3. And, if they run into a hot goalie in round one, they may not get out of round one.

If they sell this year, what are they selling? Burns? Who are they truly selling for a major return? The strength of the Fronts is the overall depth. They don’t have an elite 19 year old at any position. Maybe Pieniniemi would garner a solid return, same with Uronen but they are Improts and the market is typically similar to OA’s. They aren’t going to get rich trading those guys. I see a lot of draf tpick type deals for the Fronts players if they sold. What good are they to Kingston if they don’t have a foundation to build on?

I would tinker this year. Try to win a. Round. Give a valiant effort. Use the experience. Maybe trade Battaglia next year and keep pushing forward with confidence.
