Interesting that the radio play-by-play guy kept saying DiVincentiis all game today - it was McIvor.
I’ve listened to Jimmy lots here this year and age is getting to him. Still real good but he isn’t as good as he used to be obviously. Wouldn’t be surprised if he retired after this year as it is his 40th season

The 6th & 7th D (7 & 8 if Nelson was in the lineup) got PP time and shifts in the final few minutes to preserve the shut-out.
don’t know why they’d wait until the final minutes for that lol- definitely running up the score

may not be so much running up the score as giving lines more ice time to get used to each other.

They may have tried different lines yesterday

Yeah there are weekends that the schedule sucks but don't forget there used to be weekends that you got to play a sunday game against a team that had done the old eastern swing

Petes Thursday
67 friday
bulls sat
Kingston sunday afternoon

So you have to feel for those teams. These guys know the weekend is going to be a killer so the coach should have them somewhat prepared.

BUT is does suck.

The problem is a lot of the teams wanted to avoid the Weds night games for attendance revenue purposes.
This is causing the weekends to be loaded up with either 3/3 or 3/4.

Imo i think it would be good to get back to the one game on a mid week night, Then 2 weekend games,
3 in 3 is not allowing these kids to recover properly and if the OHL cared about these kids health they would eliminate the 3 in 3 for all teams. (I believe every single team experiences it over the season) so its not just an excuse for Kingston.
I was just looking back and Ottawa has also lost on their 3 in 3 3/4 times they had it this season.
It's not good for competitiveness of the league either.
I should add travel cost is probably playing into this ridiculous schedule too.

I'm getting close to being fully off the Vaccari train. I just watched the highlights from yesterday's shellacking and as the score showed - it was uuuuugly. Vaccari was beat clean over the shoulder 3 times - if he's 6'2" that doesn't happen. Even the first goal - if Vaccari is a little taller his leg might be able to stretch out.

Genetics are not in his favor that's for sure. -The issue I have is most people knew this was an issue last season and they still decided to roll with him as the primary this season.

He also has a health defect that would make it hard for him to focus. -I'm not sure how many people have noticed but he has a "tic" -He struggles to control his head movements which would make it extremely hard to focus as a goalie. (this is to no fault of his own obviously but something I have noticed) You will often see him making regular head movements that he cannot control.

It’s been that way for quite some years. 3in3 is difficult to get away from for school schedules and whether we like it or not, owners wallets as mid week games don’t have the same attendance. Sudbury has played 4 three in threes already and have 2 more to go. 1 win and an overtime loss in London to show for the four they have already played.

I would be careful playing doctor.

It's avoidable either way.
Peterborough's main home night is Thursdays and they have done fine with crowds imo.

Nothing to be careful about its been completely visible the 2 years he has played in the Ohl.
He has a nervous Tic its not something that can be hidden. -it would be extremely hard to focus as a goalie.

Interesting - I noticed the head movements as well as this weird shoulder rolling thing he does but I just chalked that up to the normal weirdness that comes with all goalies.

I'm no doctor to be fully transparent... But anyone that has watched him closely would have seen it.
Not trying to run the kid down if anything its impressive how he has battled through it.,
I know how things can get twisted on these forums.

Thanks Doc, I bet his parents would be happy to discuss this with you

Why would I want to discuss it with his parents? You realize he's not 14 right? (turning 19 in April)
Why are you so defensive over something so obvious that everyone can see? -Are you the "parents"?

Patrick Roy had a "tic" as you say. I would say it didn't really affect him. I don't think he or his parents would like you calling it a medical condition, unless you are in fact a scout and a doctor who has diagnosed him
Regardless I think he has been overworked and the longer you are in the league it gives teams a chance to know your weaknesses and expose them. We would be in a deep hole if not for him

I think a lot of people forget about the school stuff. Having the weekend games helps reduce the amount of time they miss -- when they already have to miss enough as it is.

There are two issues:

1> It is a league that has a primary focus on education. Weekend games are essential to satisfying those requirements.
2> Geography. The teams like Kingston and Ottawa have a more difficult time arranging suitable mid-week games. They are too far away for many one and done trips. Ottawa and Kingston can play each other but it is still a 2 hour drive. It is much different for teams like Guelph who can play a handful of teams easily on a Tuesday or Wednesday night.

It used to be ok when Belleville was in the league. They had a lot of Wednesday games. Then with the Petes on Thursday, it made it easier for many teams to do a one night layover and hot both those teams. Most of the time, though, it was Kingston/Ottawa on Friday and Sunday to make it a four game trip for the western Teams.

It's a completely visible attribute regardless of who likes it or not.

"We would be in a deep hole if not for him"
How so? -If you look at all the Primary goalies in the league he's basically the 2nd worst in the league so unless Kingston had Nathan Day i dont't think the hole would be that deep without him.

Teams visiting Windsor, Peterborough, Barrie, NB on their regular Thursdays regularly play 3 in 3.
The Soo has several Wednesdays home and away; they play more 3 in 4-5 days, but the kids miss more school days.

I think the overall team defence is poor. Roster construction based on paper is fine. But, the structure they play isn’t ideal. It has definitely gotten better since the coaching change without a doubt. But, it takes a full year to implement a new structure, acquire all the right players to fuel that structure and build a new culture around it. Kingston is still in the early stages of that. I think if the team was better prepared with more suitable players to meet the needs of that structure, Vaccari would look a lot better.

I think most goalies in the OHL are relatively the same from a skill perspective. There are maybe 3-4 that would be fine no matter where they play but the rest are subject tot he support they get in front of them with the commitment they have to suppress scoring opportunities. Kingston has not been good at suppressing scoring opportunities and Vaccari isn’t one of the 3-4 goalies in the league that can win games by himself.

I've seen/spoken to Mason countless times outside of the rink and there isn't a "noticable" tic - Perhaps its the way his mask moves, or maybe he's doing what Roy did with the constant "tic" as well.

Ottawa has 14 3 in 3 or 3 in 4 weekends on their schedule. That’s the price they pay for being in a league where they are one of the teams on the geographical fringes.

Kilrea used to say he didn’t care how long the drive was for a road trip. his concern was always the distance between the games when he got to the area they were playing. So, he focused a lot on reducing the milage between the games with the schedule makers.

Less trips and more condensed road trips can be much better as well. A team like Ottawa or Kingston can play Sarnia-Flint-Saginaw and then Windsor-London-Kitchener over two trips or three trips by playing two in one weekend vs three. Most players would prefer to do two trips and not do that extra trip.

There is a competitive imbalance based on geography no matter what they do. The centrally located teams will have a significant benefit of less travel. It is what it is. Just gotta suck it up and move on.

They usually appear when placed in a stressful, anxious. or nervous situation such a hockey game with 3,500 people watching you.
Call it a habit if you would like. -I do this thing where I clear my throat when nervous or uncomfortable and don't even realize it. (it's also a TIC)

You obviuosly have an issue wityh him. I'll let you do that. Many 40 save nights that would have been losses if not for him

agree and disagree with geographical disadvantage. Sudbury, Ottawa, SSM have very favourable schedules. The Soo because they accept Wednesdays to play 3 in 5 days and have four in division teams within 45 minutes. Sudbury gets teams on Friday that played in Barrie or NB the night before; then Sunday a/n, they get teams that were in Barrie, Miss, Soo the day before. Ottawa which is the furthest east make opponents play Saturday and Sunday a/n, and holiday Mondays.
I do not know Erie's schedule, they might have it tough.

I think he's a great kid.
I don't know why you think I have a personal issue with him because of observations of his play and body language. -You are trying to spin something this into something its not again on here.
