Kings win 3-1 against Devils; Still can't score on empty net

All Kings have to do is keep pace with Calgary, then win the head to head.

And let's all take a moment to think about how embarrassing it is that the defending Cup champs are fighting for their playoff lives with a team which identifies as being mid rebuild.

I have a thought, tell me what you guys think:

Bruce Boudreau said last week before the Kings played Anaheim that he hopes LA doesn't make it. Do you guys think that Anaheim, St Louis, Chicago, etc are losing games vs Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Minnesota on purpose (not strictly on purpose) so that the Kings don't make it? The NHL knows that all the Kings need to do is sneak in and they're a threat. What better way to avoid that than for these top teams to take nights off vs teams that are fighting for a playoff spot vs the Kings. It may not be true but it's just a thought.

Please tell me you don't believe that. It would be incredibly dangerous and unprofessional on the part of other teams to go through with it and incredibly arrogant of us to believe it.

I think it's more likely that teams at the top of the standings aren't nearly as desperate as teams fighting for their playoff lives and may be more interested in preserving/resting players by rolling lines than blasting through and winning games.

We're likely not going to get help from teams at the bottom OR the very top of the standings unless there's a grudge at play.

It is but it's not. If you take the labels off the teams and realize said team is projecting just shy of 100 points, it is what it is.

the thing is those teams (with the exception of the ducks) are also jockeying for position.
The central teams want tow win so they do not face the hawks round one. the hawks want to win to get home ice
the ducks want to stay on top so they face the 2nd wild card team and not the wild.
obviously a lot of moving parts and no guarantees

LA has shot themselves in the foot leaving a lot of points on the table.
Credit needs to be given to Calgary for what they have done this season. They may not have the most skilled players but they bring a consistent effort every night.

What are the odds that good teams are throwing games? Pretty much zero.

Feels good to be the league's darling, hopefully the NHL hands us more wins.

umm...what?

I'm not embarrassed at all. Making the playoffs in the west is extremely difficult. The Kings have played an extra season of playoff games over the last 3 years. These other teams like Calgary, Winnipeg and Minnesota are playing extremely well.

To the first point, it was tongue-in-cheek, apparently there's a conspiracy to get us in the playoffs.

To the second, totally agreed. It would be embarassing if those teams got in with 80 points and we didn't, but they're handling business.

I disagree too.

14 points of a possible 20 points the last 10 games.

72GP, 35 wins and 23 losses. Not great but thats a solid ratio.

Those OT/SO losses are killing us.

Those loses against Calgary don't feel to good right now.

Rangers fans full of righteous indignation about being suckered out of the cup by an undeserving Kings. Blood is in the water for them tonight.

Kings need to go 6-4 the rest of the way to make the playoffs. WE CAN DO THIS!!!

6-4 requires the Flames to stumble, which they've shown no indication of doing.

7-3 (or 6-2-2) is a more realistic record for sneaking into the P3 spot against Vancouver -- the wildcard spot is pretty much out of reach without MASSIVE collapses from the Central teams AND Calgary going on a tear.

But Ron said they would!?

They only won a single game due to a snow pile. They actually deserved to be swept.

this.
Everyone knew that the hawks series was the true stanley cup final
Also,
1994 NYR win cup
1995 NYR miss playoffs

What games were you watching? Lol. The Rangers were leading for more minutes by wide margin. Multiple games went to 2 OT and OT. You're acting like the Kings crushed the Rangers in every game 7-0 which is simply not true. Kings deserved to win the cup last year but stop acting like it was a cake walk.

It was almost as easy as sweeping the Blues.

No one was saying it was a cake walk, calm down. All he said was that snow piles 1 and 2 prevented a sweep, and that is a true statement.

Richards knocked somebody off the puck last night. That was awesome! I'm not kidding either.

It was also his best game for the Kings in over a month. :sarcasm: Ok, that was meant to be a joke. At the very least, his play was encouraging. Hopefully he keeps it up.
