According to NHL Insiders Michael Russo and Eric Duhatschek of The Athletic, both Sean Durzi and Sean Walker could be dealt.

In addition, the Kings are close to finalizing a contract extension for pending unrestricted free agent D-man Vladislav Gavrikov, who was brought in at the trade deadline.

Pleasant surprise to hear this but I gotta be honest I'm afraid of the terms required to secure him.

my gut tells me terms won't matter too much to his contract if they can shed durzi and walker at the same time. i don't think gavrikov commands an insane salary so maybe a clause or two is acceptable

with that salary cleared you can afford to pay gabe a nice bridge or give him the kempe-lite

On the second-most recent 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman said he’s heard Arvidsson’s name a lot regarding to Kings players that may be moved and have interest from other teams. The last is obviously true and there are some solid arguments as to why he would be the guys to move, but it would really suck to lose him (depending on the return or the opportunity it leaves to have an internal option rise to).

No to be nit picky, but that’s not exactly what the Athletic article said. The exact quote was ‘the expectation is’ that they were close to signing him. I mean that’s a major ‘duh, no shit’ to most kings fans as we all know they wouldn’t have given up 1st round pick if they weren’t going to try and keep him. Anyways, the real question is how close are they to getting it done.

That quote isn't from The Athletic.

Yeah, those writers.

There needs to be done more than that.

Roy is the last one to be traded, he fits our needs of size and playing rough.

3 of Iafallo, Arvidson, Walker, Durzi, Spence have to go and then some.

Sadly Durzi and Spence are luxuries you can have if your defense core is huge and tough, not as main players.
Kopitars,Doughtys and Petersens contracts are really killing this team cap, not Arvi, Iafallo, or Walkers. Those like Walker,Durzi and Iafallo will be moved cause of those contracts to make other signings possible unfortunately.

You are bang on.
This is why i want to hold Dougty accountable for his piss poor play and bench him on the press box
to give him time to rethink his no trade contract.

That’s really a great idea. What a fantastic way to build team morale and attract coveted FA’s.

Kurrilino for coach and GM, please.
To be fair, when you've little to no cap, it's hard to attract FA's. It makes it even harder to put together a Stanley Cup contender.

Yeah, that’s super fair….so just shit on the ones you have to show you won’t stand for underperforming. Like I said, GREAT idea.

Everyone is absolutely f***ing hilarious, see...we need to hold these guys accountable, sit Doughty, put him in the press box....

Can anyone name ANY one on ANY team this year, that has the presence of Doughty that was made a health scratch.....the CLOSEST was in Tampa with Cooper sitting his top guys...for a period during a 5-3 loss.....did ANYONE of them sit the next game? Yea...didn't think so....

Talk about being so far gone as to have no idea how professional sports works, is just comical at this point.....

We have a core that has proven that they don't have what it takes but pushes us right against
the cap. At this point there is no FA signings.

Beside that, winning and potential is attracting FA's, not a retiree reunion tour that hurts all of the future hopes and dreams.

I strongly advice to look at Vegas, where a players life means nothing but the club is super successful.
Accountability is for anyone regardless the name, not just the 18 year old.
If you demand a $10 mill contract and you do not perform as a $10mill you find yourself in the press box. This is the example you have to set for the youngsters

I've said it before, I'll keep saying it....THESE guys are the real trolls.

Is this how you manage your Xbox team?

100% couldn't agree more lol... Also, these people that want to bench Doughty make it sound like he's god awful - Which just flat out isn't true.

Is he an $11 million defenseman?? No. But he's still very solid and had a pretty good year this season.

52 points and a +12 in 81 games and he's still a guy who can eat a ton of minutes if needed. Like... You really want to sit your best defenseman (and a leader on the team btw) just because he has a big contract?? Seriously???? Some of these posters are beyond delusional.

This has nothing to do with delusional, this is what should be done.
Everyone is ware though that it won't happen.

The sitting of Doughty is not because he has a big contract, the purpose is to make him rethink his no trade clause. He would be better off somewhere else, where has a last shot at the cup.
Just sitting in the sun and cruising to retirement is neither helping his image or the Los Angeles Kings.

My brother in christ if you truly believe this is Doughty's approach - I really don't know what to tell you.

Doughty arguably has the most passion on the entire roster. He's insanely competitive. He wants to win, and he wants to do it in LA. Him not living up to his contract has nothing to do with his effort level and I can tell you right now there isn't a snowball's chance in hell he's 'just cruising to retirement.'

That's legit an insane take - And thus we have the term 'delusional'.

Also brother, the Kings are a legit GOOD playoff team. You can argue they aren't a true contender, and yeah it sucks they got bounced in the 1st round but they should be a playoff team for at least the next couple years and with the right moves could definitely have a shot at the cup next year (They had a shot this year, just fell short mainly due to a shitty PK)

So what, you're going to health bomb your best D man in hopes that causes him to waive his NTC so you can ship him and his $11 million cap hit to a contender (who absolutely will not have cap space by the way) where he has a last shot to win the cup???

Come on now.....

Nobody is sitting Doughty, and the time to trade him has long passed. Next season he will be a 34 year old defenseman making $11m a season while probably playing at an $8m level. It's not horrible, plenty of teams have older players with negative cap hits, but with another $5m tied into your likely AHL goaltender things like this start to hurt you in the cap, and especially more damaging because the Kings are unlikely to have any key contributors on ELC's next season.

While I agree with you regarding Doughty I suggest that this is a forest/trees situation.

The Kings are simply not capable of winning a playoff series. Their "best" players like Kopitar and Doughty are still very good players, but they just flat out aren't as good as the best players on the teams competing with them. Kopitar had a good year but was still in the bottom third of the leagues first line centers.

So instead of developing players to take over those spots, our GM is filling the roster with average to better than average mid-range players who are flooding the cap space to play with the faded vets AND postponing the development of players who should be much further along towards the goal of replacing the older guys. There is just way too much talent being wasted here in supporting roles instead of being groomed to be the stars the team needs.

That takes patience, foresight and proactive thinking, none of which are the strengths of this management team. We are currently seeing the literal best that they can do and by the measuring stick of playoff success they are completely failing.

You mean you aren't enjoying this sequel to the DT turn of the century Kings movie?

I am not going to argue about something unless I am confident that I am right. I have been arguing this point nonstop since the end of the 14-15 season because it was such an easy outcome to predict.

Its depressing that the team I have loved since my first game in 1977 is stuck in a mire of their own making and keeps doubling down on a formula that is so clearly not working.

This offseason is going to be about creative situations to move out some mid-range contracts just to keep some more mid-range contracts or maybe bring in another mid-range player while the REAL problems remain the same: older atars doing the best they can, top picks are not being converted into new stars and top picks are being traded for mid-range players on expiring contracts. Nothing will change by following this philosophy. Its just another year of Gilligans Island reruns where they almost get into the second round again.
