Just finished watching the game.
I thought the third line looked great, they actually carry a threat. Once Kempe settles down and stops trying too hard he's going to be fine. I saw enough in his game , just not consistently. He looks like he is fighting for a roster spot in his own mind at least and he's over extending himself. As soon as he makes the opening night roster and the pressure is off he will be fine. Dowd is much better on the wing.
Then there is Iafallo. I am seriously excited by him, he is a lock to make the opening night roster. It's wishful thinking that we've all had for Brodzinski, he will be in Ontario as he is no where near ready imo. Iafallo has top 6 talent and I'm putting money on him making a significant impact. I'm really high on this guy and cannot see how he gets sent down.
Kuemper played great I thought. I'm more than happy at him being the backup, I just pray Campbell clears waivers. Forbert looks great also. He's playing like a seasoned vet and he's going to eat up plenty of minutes this year. I also think we've been under rating Folin. He's nothing special and not a Matt Greene type of player but for a number 6 d-man he's going to be nice and steady.
The star of preseason, for me, has been Stevens. He's done a great job and you can see the difference he has made already. The tempo of our offensive game is totally different and has much more purpose in trying to make things happen, rather than waiting for the law of averages to kick in and have a bounce go our way. It's early days but it's only going to get better. It'll take the veteran forwards longest to adapt as they've been playing a certain way for so long, but they will get it. I thought Kopitar had a quiet game but in a good way. He was more involved and looked more in tune with the tempo. He could easily have had 3-4 assists tonight. It'll be 3/4 competitive games in and then we will see he's going to have a good year.
I'm really looking forward to this season. The glass is slightly more than half full...
