Kuemper did really surprise me too. Was waiting for the stinker but it never came, and he looked composed and confident all night.

Hope Campbell passes through waivers though :/

yeah i'm nervous about campbell. i've been surprised by players passing through waivers unclaimed before though. i can't lie, i was half hoping for kuemper to stink up the joint to force their hand in keeping campbell up to avoid waivers

My hope is that there are simply so many 'league-average' goalies and prospects out there that Campbell isn't enticing anymore, but the Kings can't seem to keep their well-coached goalies away from other teams for some reason.

I'm just excited the system is more up-tempo. I notice some of our main guys are still puck-control supremo, i.e. cycle back and start over, but hopefully they join in the fun too. Having a bit more speed in the lineup in Kempe, Iafallo for example is noticeably helpful in forechecking and causing disruption if nothing else. Kempe might only end up being a Cogliano type with some size, and that's totally OK.

Iafollo showed more this preseason than Kempe has in 3 years as a pro. I know he's still a kid, but he needs to do something this season or he could be on the Lombardi bust train.

MacDermid need to play more then 9 mins 10 secs a game to make this team. Sorry to his fans but I wouldn't want him on the team unless he can play at least 16 mins a game. It puts to many mins on the other 5 defense man.

exactly. it's not wildly different but when forwards turn to build up speed, they're actually building up speed instead of doing the ole darryl sutter "get to the spot"

seemed like the D could never make a breakout pass last year but i think that probably had more to do with the fact that no forwards were ever available to receive one.. just that half step when they turn and burn instead of lazily gliding creates openings and gives the forecheckers less time to fill them

Iafallo was great.

To me, the most disappointing player in preseason so far, relative to expectations, is Tyler Toffoli. Whenever he has the puck, I never get the feeling he's going to score or be a catalyst for a goal.

I barely even noticed Kopitar in today's game. I hope he doesn't continue to play like the second coming of Handzus, but his laborious skating and tendency to not even get into a position to shoot the puck is making me more inclined to believe he's in store for another sub-60 point season.

My point was more it's hard to get excited about the preseason period, but in the top guys' case, it's "we're worried if they don't score." Then if they score, "well, they should score more, it's preseason and a bunch of plugs." Then, if they're dominant, "Well whatever, it's preseason, we'll see when the games count." Relentlessly pessimistic around here. Shades of 2008
