Tobi and Durzi were mostly fine paired together...when they were the 3rd pairing. Then next thing you know they're the first pair due to injuries and then they had a string of like 3 or 4 games where they were -3 each. That's why the +/- was so bad for both of them. Then Tobi got injured and he wasn't the same when he came back. He's going to bounce back.

It's not a big deal.

I'm just a stickler for accuracy and let's revisit this again.

Technically correct.

Totally lacking context that could have been provided by actually attending camp and/or talking to people in the organization.

You entire point was this wasn’t “accurate” information. Turns out it was! There was no roster-limit deadline the team had to hit yesterday that required the team to do it.

Yeah my beef is just how can you take a young guy who’s played the last two seasons in the NHL and send him down? They’d be better off trading him if they’d rather play Edler over him at this point.

Maybe. But Edler fills a role they are missing which has an effect. I don't think Edler is why he was sent down, in any case. #1 is waivers, they are going to hang on to everyone they can after the injury debacle last year. They certainly will try to get value from players they don't plan on keeping, which you can't do at the drop of a hat.

#2, Toby was likely penciled in the lineup until Clarke came in and (unexpectedly) plays like an all-star half the time he's out there. I think he really caught people off guard more than they would admit. Things are always fluid, but the most likely plan was to send Clarke back to Jrs after camp and have Spence as the #1 in ONT. Brandt's play threw a wrench in it in a good way.

What happens over the next few weeks to a month is telling. If they think that highly of Toby, they will make room.

Since you were the "well, actually" one yesterday, I'll play that role today: just because players have been sent down doesn't mean that can't play with the main group. Exhibit A:

Oh, and they guy you interviewed today is reporting the same information "straight from the Kings":

It's almost like transactions can occur without confirmation from the team's PR department...

You just don't understand how things work.

On a serious note, while it's uncommon for a young defender to be sent down even though he made the roster at a younger age, it's not indefensible. While Bjornfot hasn't played poorly, I don't think he's stood out as a demonstrably superior player compared to the other vets on a one-way contract. To add, the growth in his game really hasn't been there compared to when he entered the league.

So it becomes a question of: does the team benefit MORE to waive/trade away a player like Walker to make room for Bjornfot, OR to give Bjornfot top minutes in the AHL to continue refining his game and biding his time while a decent vet fulfills a role?

I do think Bjornfot is good enough to play in the NHL. But he's not grown much in his level of play. I don't see much growth in his physical strength. He activates offensively, but hasn't really increased the number of dangerous chances. In fact, the other night was his second goal and 15th point at the NHL level (though it doesn't count, due to preseason)

Todd McLellan is on record multiple times saying he doesn't like having a ton of guys on one rink for practice.

The Kings have been skating in multiple groups at different times of the day for most of camp.

On Monday the Kings were split into two groups skating simultaneously on two separate rinks.

On Monday Clarke and Moverare were in Group B.

Brandt Clarke has been in Group B before.

On Tuesday Clarke and Moverare were in the game group with Group A.

On Wednesday Ontario Reign camp opened.

Group B on Tuesday was Ontario Reign camp on Wednesday.

Todd doesn't want 10 guys on the blueline in practice.

Todd has 10 guys on the blueline in camp.

Spence and Bjornfot can walk across the facility to the other rink and practice at the same time with the Reign without clearing waivers.

Bradnt Clarke can't. Moverare can't.

Spence and Bjornfot would have to be assigned to Ontario in order to participate in that skate.

Spence and Bjornfort were assigned to Ontario.

Accurate statement completely lacking in context.
