He seemed like a great guy and good luck to him in Carolina. It always seemed to me like he lacked that mean streak you want your enforcer to have. His fights always seemed staged.

Looks like another great deal, maximizing expendable assets. The Kings are deep, they can roll 4 lines and all 4 lines can keep the puck out of the net. The only thing Westgarth contributed was clapping his hands after a fight, regardless of whether he won or lost. Stewart still has some upside, has played for bad teams his whole career, sometimes these guys step up when they're surrounded by winners (weird to type that).

My only problem is that the remaining heavyweights in the conference Bissonette, Reeves, Boll, Bollig, M. Kassian, Hordichuk are all kinda out of Nolan/Clifford's league. Those dudes are legit heavies. We saw what happened when the Kings tried to leave all the enforcing duty to Clifford...didn't work out well.

By posting Bissonette and legit in any form makes this entire post invalid. :sarcasm:

I think Sutter will be very pleased to see the players you mention on the ice.

It bothers me when people feel the need to rip a good guy when he leaves the team. Best of luck to Westy.

Those players you just listed are useless if there is no one out there to fight them. Like someone above said, Sutter will be more than happy to see those players in the lineup because that means the other team is wasting a line up spot.

Wow how did Deano pull in that return for Westy? He's a good team guy that's about it. Stewart should be a nice addition to the 4th line rotation. Good luck to Westy though, he's a good guy.

Westgarth is married to Bill Cowhers daughter, who lives in the area. He had been practicing with many of the locked out Hurricanes for the last month or so.

Sounds like Dean did him a favor sending him to the team in his hometown.

Yea I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Stewart is just a press box mainstay. He is a UFA at the end of the season, and should act as a decent insurance policy on the performances of Clifford/Nolan without losing the size or toughness by taking them out of the lineup. It's a smart move that could protect those two guys significantly.

Love Richardson but when you insert him instead of Clifford or Nolan..those bottom lines lose a little bit of their edge.

Little known fact. Kings wanted to draft Anthony Stewart in 2003, and were miffed when Florida moved up and selected Stewart. Which is why the Kings called a time out at the draft. They were unprepared and had no clue how to react to having the player they were about to select get plucked away from them. So they mulled it over and took a gamble with Brian Boyle.

If a team is that unprepared that on draft day thy have to mull over who to pick because they didn't think their guy would be gone at 26th overall, they have some serious issues.

And Rutherford repaid him for that favor very nicely :D

Am I missing something?

IMO Stewart has more value that Eastgarth. But we got 2 draft picks?
Lombardi is a level 5 wizard

Exactly. That's what winning teams do. They have depth. Stewart is quality depth who has put up good numbers (for what he was asked to do) on bad teams.

Fantastic trade. Even if Stewart never plays a game, getting any assets for a player who was likely not even going to make the team is solid asset management.

Stewart will be the #13/14 until Kopitar returns...then the Kings will have to make a decision between Stewart, Nolan or Richardson being waived/sent down to Manchester (Nolan will be at a disadvantage since he can go down without having to clear waivers). He's a decent enough 13/14 forward, was very surprised when Winnipeg did not qualify him two seasons ago.

Kings only have 1 extra forward right now, Richardson until AStew arrives in LA. They add Stewart, that is two....I don't understand why they are over the roster limit? Drewiske is #7 on D and Richardson/Stewart are the 2 extra forwards..that is standard.

Once Kopitar gets back they will be at 15 forwards though. So for now, yeah Richie and Stewart will be extra, but once Kopitar returns they will have to move a forward out.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Anze...yeah, then it looks like either Nolan to Manchester or Richardson to waiver wire.

The forth line is Nolan-Fraser-Clifford and if they produce and gel like they did at the end of the year how can they break this line up? I guess possibly Stewart-Fraser-Clifford.....
