I don't want Kempe up here, but I seriously doubt he could be any worse than Brown and Clifford have been the last two years.

And King stunk up the joint the end of last season too.

King also missed half the year with injury.

Brown is what he is

Pearson is good top six

Clifford is a 4th liner, which is what he plays.

Kempe has speed, but he does not posses a scoring touch like Toffoli. He would struggle mightly in a top six role facing NHL Defenders.

Do people really want Kempe lingering around at 10-12 minutes a night on the bottom six lines ?

Let him finish another AHL season, see if he can develop the consistency you need to be an NHL top forward.

Is Trotman two way?

Gilbert is a lock. Gravel can still go to the AHL. Forbort will have to clear waivers.

Doughty-McNabb
Martinez-Muzzin
Gilbert-Forbort/Greene

Trotman has actually been a full time NHLer the last 2 years and has done a great job in every league each year doing better than the year before . I wouldnt be surprised if he plays better than Gilbert , Greene , Scuderi. I think Trotman will be our #6 or atleast battle it out with Gilbert for the job.

Scuderi will be buried in Ontario.

Forbort won't be on the Kings opening night lineup.

Greene is made of glass and chances are he's just as likely to be on IR as he is to be in the opening night lineup.

So that leaves about 7 of the names on your list who may likely make up the blueline.

Forbort has no other options he needs to be on the opening night roster because he would have to clear waivers. Since we all say we need a young Willie Mitchell and Scuderi well Forbort was compared to Scuderi by Dean and Gravel to Mitchell.

Who cares?
If he can't crack this garbage defense why do we care if we lose him on waivers?

We lost a way better player in Hickey to waivers.

i can't believe we signed Tom ****ing Gilbert

ok so defensemen we gotta make disappear before we can compete for a cup again

here was my 2015/16 list: Greene, Schenn, McNabb, Schultz, Scuderi, McBain
now here is my 2016/17 list: Greene, McNabb, Gilbert, Scuderi

we are slowly getting there...

My guess is that nobody wants to pencil in Dwight King as a top six LW, which is a scary thought.

Brown is being paid like a 1st liner, Kopitar got a $3m bump in salary, and Toffoli and Pearson need new contracts in future years. Unless you want to see the Kings give up more future to get a team to retain salary, they can't get more big money forwards.

Brown is getting paid to be this team's Lucic, Okposo, Ladd, Ericsson. Brown's lack of production is why they needed to bring Gaborik in, and then sign him after he had a great playoff. Brown's lack of production is why they had to get Boston to retain 50% on Lucic.

Brown's contract vs. production
Richards breaking down to less than even a 3rd line guy
Voynov
Lombardi's emotional loyalty

It's the Kings version of 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

great offeason....DL hunkers down around the clock and assesses everything and everyone. Scouts, all staff, player evaluations. Decides
must 're-invent' and be 'creative'.

Meets with Sutter. Extends him. (possible mistake - players like Shore
and other young players will never thrive here unless they become neutered and play his way...playing 'scared' not to play the way that got them to the NHL)

Meets with Brown. Tells him he will not be captain. Gives C to Kopitar.

Lets Lucic, Schenn, McBain, Versteeg walk. Got nothing for Lucic and loses Jones, Miller and Kyle Connor (future Jeff Carter and a year away) for him.

Buys out Greene...then rescinds that?

So, offends Brown and Greene. 2 of the core players in 2012 that helped win Cup.

Had enough money to sign Hamhuis or Lucic as well as others, but
says priority is to sign Toffoli and Pearson.

Signs 4 fringe NHL players...Zatkoff good signing as backup.
Gilbert was good 3-4 years ago. Latta, possibly better than Shore.
Trotman? Ellerby part 2? Risking minimum contract. Hope they can make something of him.

No top 6 forward. No top 4 D. Lost best UFA they had that wanted to sign here. They should have tried harder to sign him early in the season. He may have taken 5 years then.

Is this a playoff team? Can count on the big 3: Kopi, Drew and Quick...but Not without top performances from: Carter, Toffoli, Gaborik, Pearson...and the core D being healthy. See what happens when even Martinez goes down?

Where's this re-invent? Sutter is Sutter and he's not going to change.

From what we've been told, Kings are not kicking tires on Hartnell or Hudler... however, are looking at Teddy Purcell as possible fwd option

Reinventing the Kings means going back in time and bringing back the guys that were here right before the team became a threat hahaha.

I preferred him over Versteeg at the deadline. Fine stop gap for one season in the hopes that Kempe is ready next year.

Oh, and agree with demacles about the doghouse. Versteeg would be as well.

They just made Lucic a last ditch offer. LA tried to bring in a big UFA contract. Money was there for a first liner. Guess it wasn't reciprocated.

This team is what it is.

I could have seen King and Forbort being shopped but mostly for space, but now LA needs King.

I think one of Gabby or Brown gets taken by Vegas. Just a hunch. Still servicable recognizable names that can get them to the floor, unless they want McNabb.

This year is a wash. Teams have improved and those three Pacific spots will be hard to come by. Wild card could be even harder. IF LA does miss the playoffs, I'm guessing it will be black hole time again.

LA lost Lucic. Maybe they will figure something out but they need to stay healthy and fire on all cylinders, no January gloom or let down next year to stay competitive.

So now Lombardi needs to have feelings?

Lombardi can't think with his heart. He has to make the tough choices. After he makes some tough choices and doesn't think with his heart, oh no, now Brown and Greene might feel bad. Poor guys. Greene can't stay healthy, and Brown can't score. The Kings have 5 playoff games and 1 playoff win in 2 years. What's going to happen if Brown and Greene feel bad?

Lombardi has to be cutthroat. No more loyalty. Waives Greene to maybe give himself more options, because it's a business. Oh no, what about Greene's feelings?

Lombardi has to be cutthroat. No more loyalty. Takes the C away from Brown, because look what's happened the last few years. The team is falling apart. Oh no, it leaked out early. What about Brown's feelings?

The one thing not mentioned is that these signings don't even have to impact the cap if we don't want them in the big club. We can just put them on waivers and send them to Ontario for a $900k savings. Since all of them are below that mark, we still technically have the same cap space as we did yesterday.

I am all for Hudler. I think he would be great with Kopitar setting him up. Hartnell is not a bad option either, but Columbus would have to retain big time. Neither is worth more than $3 million.

Man, Latta fights everything, I didn't realize that.

I liked him both games we played the Caps, but had no idea he was that feisty

Trotman is really underrated. Right handed, and has improved everywhere he has played.

Yeah, think it was a different thread but I said almost the same thing, helps fill in the RHD prospect gap between Doughty and LaDue ( ) and dev team probably sees a ball of clay.

It's pretty clear to me that these aren't consolation/desperation signings, they were specifically targeted. (at least once Looch fell through).

Everyone should have expected this. The biggest UFAs the Kings have EVER signed are Rob Blake, Pavol Demitra and Wllie Mitchell. Ever.

They'd had a few others like Craig Conroy, Mathieu Schneider and Steve Duchesne, but you're right, generally this team doesn't go nuts in free agency, and given this year's crop of UFAs, it is wise to refrain from spending like a fool.
