I think muzzin did the right thing, but the penalties for the given situation are bogus. Who is gonna take off their helmet when your friend goes down. They should be less strict on plays like that.

Scuderi is too old, he looks so fatigued that he looks lost.

Bernier was good, deserves next start.

We had a solid first besides the goals we looked like we were in full sync.

Hopefully we win the next game.

Our defense is very weak this season.

The reason I think quick is doing bad is that he's not confident and he's missing green and mitchell. They kept players to the sides and forced low shots, and with that they cleared after the first save was made. Quicks usually out of position for the second saves and he thrives by having the defense clear it after. It's a mutual thing. Our defense, if the defense is good he will be successful, if the defense is bad like ours is right now then he his exposed because no one can replace mitchell and Greene.

The reason I like bernier to start more is because our defense isn't good enough to support quick on athletic plays. Bernier doesn't thrive on defense cause he's all positioning with a glove which is best cause our D can't cover / clear right now. If our Defense is strong again then by all means playqQuick. It's just obvious how important our defense is because it allows him to play his game.

Strange year all around. Imagine if Muzzin didn't step in and play lights out offensively and on the PP? Imagine if Voynov didn't take a step forward?

Our defense is way too green out there and it shows game after game. Doughty is doing god knows what out there and Scuderi looks like he's an old man. Enough is enough. If Mitchell and Greene are done its time to bring in another veteran presence on the blue line. Drewiske didn't work out - bite the bullet and trade for Regehr.

Couple that with Quick putting up the worst statistical season of his career and you have a recipe for disaster from the blue line back. It's infuriating and feels like 06/07 all over again.

For the person above singling out SCUDERI... thank you! I think scuderi is having an awful year. He's good at a few things, and those strenghts like coverage / sharpness / anticipation / positioning are all not there this year. He'll continue to never be physical, or create anything offensively. Somehow he gets a free pass around these boards but i think its time we call out scuds a little bit.

Sutter HAS to roll out Bernier w/ this roster. Quick relies heavily on Greene and Mitchell to take care of his porch. Not to mention the big contract and the back surgery. This team plays better in front of Bernier because Bernier is playing the percentages... Quick is a do or die goalie, and with the right roster, it works.. but without greene and mitchell we just need somebody in net playing economical. Bernier is that guy.

For those saying that "doughty is playing just fine" has to seriously look at this game. You can just tell ***** just in his head, he's not playing instinctively, he's second guessing himself on just about every shift. Dew Droughty needs to get off the shnid and figure it out, Sure his role has changed, it doesn't mean he's NOT getting his chances to score from the point.

For the positives i'm really loving that Brown has found his shot. It's always been a big underrated part of his game. Clifford is still awesome.

Gotta get the home mojo working and actually beat a pacific team.. 0-3 in our last 3 against our own division. Just a hunch but i think we might get Toffoli in for Penner in the next game. and Wiskey over Martinez who still doesn't look quite right.

You could sense that even Jim Fox is getting tired of Doughty's stupid pump fake when he touched on it late in the 3rd after another failed attempt by Doughty. He has to get it through his thick head that the move doesn't work anymore. He continuously does it, draws a checker towards him, and ends up shooting the puck into a shot blocker.

What happened to the more mobile and agile Doughty who would move himself into a better shooting position? He used to spin around checkers or walk the line and find an opening to get the puck through. Now he stands, waits, pump fakes, and gets his shot blocked or shoots it wide. It's gotten to a point where it is infuriating.

It's one of the most confusing things about any player in the entire league. Go back and watch highlights of Doughty in 09/10 - always moving, fluid skater, no hesitation in shooting the puck whatsoever, very little physical element to his game.

Doughty in 12/13 - very physical, doesn't move much on the point, always looks like he's looking for the perfect shot/pass, hardly any instinct to his game anymore.

It's baffling because less than a year ago we saw Drew Doughty dominate the 11/12 playoffs. It just doesn't make any sense.

Edit: Random thought, but I can't help but think that coaches like Murray and Sutter would dissuade Doughty from the spin-o-ramas and free skating style of play Doughty has exhibited in the past. Maybe that kind of game has simply been coached out of him and now it's all about north-south. Just thinking out loud.

Reminds me of when JJ was trying to do too much. Maybe Doughty has taken it upon himself to make up for Greene and Mitchell being out, which usually doesn't work for any player. Just simplify and play your game.

Most annoying about Doughty's wind up, is that both Voynov and Muzzin have scored multiple goals this year where they have just thrown the puck at the net instead of shooting. Yet he tries the perfect shot everytime

Think the ship has sailed on catching the Ducks. need them to win out vs anyone but the Kings now

The defensive backbone of the team is busted up.
It has been relied upon so heavily for the last couple of years and now it's not there. No Mitchell, no Greene, Scuds appears to be at 50%. An addition or one or two players returning to form would be a step in the right direction.

3.3 Goals a game in the last eight games....You are going to lose hockey games letting in that many goals.

Defense and Goalies, pick it up please.

Looking for a 26-17-5 record. That puts the Kings into the playoff's with little room to spare.

The Kings need to start getting these bad start games, to at least OT.

You just don't know if Quick is going to make the save this season. Last year, you knew he'd make the save. This season, for whatever reason, through 21 games with an .891 save%, you kind of figure the puck will find the back of the net these days.

No question missing two veteran guys on defense changes the dynamic of the team. Scuderi ends up playing too many heavy minutes. Doughty seems to be in regular season mode, and in a different role by default. Voynov has been terrific. Martinez/Ellerby/Muzzin/Drewiske have all been up and down. Those last 5 guys have all played less than the equivalent of 2 full NHL seasons. It's become a very inexperienced defense.

Still no reason to panic. It's not easy to win in Phoenix, and especially with the schedule situation for that game. How often do the Kings play well and/or win in SJ?

If the Kings come out with another sloppy performance at home tomorrow, now you're talking about 3 games in a row. Then they need to start getting it together quickly, before they find themselves chasing teams, with little time to take a breath.

I am glad that Egg McMuzzin stood up for his teammate but our PK failed us there

It went quite unnoticed that Kopi played his 500 regular season game for LA Kings and that with his assist he reached top10 in points in LA Kings history

We need t opick up a vert d or two to replace Mitchell and Greene. The kids have done allright but are now being exposed and pushed around. Hard to believe a sutter team is allowing as many goals as we have seen lately.

Yes--and Martinez coming back from injury. And that's just what we know about. Props to the guys playing through being banged up, but I'm wondering if that's why we're seeing some sluggishness out there.

Maybe rotaing Scuds out in a back to back to give him a breather could be beneficial. Same thing with some of our Forwards.
It'sa comact schedule, and I hate how our excuse against the Cryotes was that it was our 3rd in 4 nights and we were tired. I know you cannnot switch everyone but when you have fresh legs in the pressbox I do not think this is a valid excuse.

Only two pages huh guys?

I've been a huge Jonathan Quick supporter since he came to LA but it just seems like Bernier has been the better goalie this season. I'm not blaming Quickie for the shotty defense but I just feel like Bernier gives us a better chance to win each night and I'd like to see him utilized even more until our Conn Smyth winner can get his game together.

I'm with those of you who think that Muzzin should be skating back to the bench after that play. If you know you're going to get that absurd visor penalty you NEVER take that penalty in a big game against a divisional opponent. I know these guys have to stick up for each other but Fraser needs to be more aware of what's going on around him and avoid hits like that all together.

What worries me the most is the team is still winning game but losing sight of all the things that have made us successful last year. I love that we are putting up goals but playoff wins are often grinded out. I certainly haven't lost hope in this team. I doubt the players are panicking at this point so why should we?

It's easy for us to analyze Muzzin's reaction after the game, but I know most of us would react the same way. I see my teammate go down and I'd be ready for blood, especially against the Sharks. I'm glad he reacted that way. Yes, those two goals lost us the game, but we certainly didn't play inspiring hockey. Especially on d. You can't analyze the score and your opponents visor (or lack thereof) in a few seconds.

Scuds is one of my favorite players, but damn has he been horrendous. Every play he makes is the opposite of what he would normally do. So frustrating.

Muzzin - in my opinion it's nice to see emotion and loyalty. The visor rule is bogus and only here a few years until visors are mandatory. He has been playing great hockey lately and it was only a few weeks ago people were bagging to see him play the body more and use his size. Not gonna get to mad over what he did.

Sutter- don't like how he handles the goalies. The game prior to this should have been Berniers and when that never happened this definately should have been.

Quick - not up to par, has been streaky in past, league figured out to go high a few years ago so it's not that. I see two things:

1- his head isn't into it, he isn't tracking the puck as well, he just seems to loose focus at times
2-over committing and over aggressive

Now in the past years he has had two crease clearer types to clean up in front of him, he doesn't as of today. This is a huge problem and one that doesn't seem to effect Bernier as much as his rebound control and positioning are better then Quicks. Until we see Quick improve it should be Bernier or the hottest of the two in net as we are fighting for a playoff spot. We have 10 more years of Quick to lead us, let's give him time to get his head and body back into this

Scuderi - love him but he is struggling bad all year. Limit his minutes and put him in the right situations. Build his confidence and strength back up. An over used aging mule helps no one plow the field.

Bernier- should not see him mentioned in a trade rumor until draft time. We need him now.

Doughty - trying to do to much makes anyone look bad. He needs a proper minute munching partner.

Lombardi - love what he has done but can't live on past merit. Get us a big, defensive minute muncher. Pay for someone young that fills the role. We can not rely on Mitchell or Scuds anymore. Use Scuds 3.5 mil for next year and get us a young or middle aged guy that will be around for a while and play with Doughty. Yes it will cost but it will sort out a lot of the defensive problems. Imagine a Marc Staal type with Drew.

I've been saying that I think they should look at moving Scuds at the deadline if he's not re-signed. His play hasn't changed my mind.

We all know of the negotiations between him and Dean. If a deal doesn't seem in place by the trade deadline, I would have no problem and wouldn't hesitate moving him for something. Gotta get value for these guys. He'd fetch something. Especially in a package.

It was a clean hit!

What are we going to do, get a penalty for going after everyone that lays a clean hit?

First, no one said it wasn't a clean hit, and no, you don't go after everyone who lays a clean hit - but keep in mind most clean hits don't leave a guy writhing on the ice holding his head.

Second, you knew it was a clean hit because you have the luxury of instant replay. Muzzin didn't. All he sees is Fraser on the ice holding his head. When it comes to standing up for a teammate, you either do it NOW or don't do it at all. By the time they show it on the scoreboard video screen it's too late to do anything.

It happened, it sucks. Life goes on.
