Love this pick, love Yannetti and Futa too, and DL. Go in with nothing but a late 2nd, walk out with a very intriguing prospect without losing anything from our roster, pipeline and just a few extra picks.

Looks like another lethal strike in the second round. Wouldn't it be a hoot if this guy turns out to be better than Nichuskin after he goes through DL's dev program?

Also, maybe he won't be able to play in the AHL for two years but he might somehow be able to play in LA if he does good enough (dominates) on his junior team next year...highly unlikely but maybe possible.

interesting interview :)

That kid is a scream! I burst out laughing 3 or 4 times. What a personality!

He looks like a pretty good player too with allot of promise. I'd rather see that second year in the CHL rather than going back to Europe.

Geezer alert! Reminds me of then child actor Billy Mumy of "Lost in Space" and "Twilight Zone" fame. VZ has that same impish look.

I talked to him at the Top Prospects Game and agree with the comments here about him being a bit of a character. Fun guy to talk to.

I wouldn't worry too much about KHL/Russia, kid wants to play in the NHL.

As mentioned, skating is the issue. Heard some guys say that his form is poor. His game doesn't rely on speed though. A scout told me that he felt from the hashmarks to the net, no one was more dangerous than Zykov in the QMJHL last season. This is in a league with MacKinnon, Drouin and Mantha.

Really like this player and this pick.

Fascinating insight from Futa here: http://lakingsinsider.com/2013/07/01/mike-futa-on-the-draft-process-draftees/

"He’s a kid that he does a little bit of everything. He’s got the same agent as Slava. This kid is a bright, enthusiastic young guy. He dropped more F-bombs on the floor today than we could ever think of doing. So he’s got a lot of personality. Again, you hate to use it – there’s a Russian factor that scares you about kids using the KHL. This kid plays in a small market in Baie-Comeau. He scored 40 goals. He was the Canadian Hockey League rookie of the year. There’s still a lot of work, but that’s what we like about him, that from a physical standpoint, there’s still some growth. I mean, he’s 210 pounds. We know how much Darryl and our identity is heavy presence, heavy body. You’ve got a heavy presence, heavy body that’s not matured, not developed at the same tone that we need it at yet, and he’s got incredible tools. He doesn’t shy away from anything, and he’s got a North American personality, which has a great mix to it. So, absolutely."

Another interesting quote:

we actually just missed another guy that we were trying to package some picks with our second pick there, as well. But that’s what makes the draft fun, and this is a special kid.

I'd wager that he is talking about Adam Erne there.

Futa said "he's a bright enthusiastic guy, he dropped more F bombs than we could ever think of doing" haha.

In the future, would it be possible (depending upon the ability of the players to play the respective positions in question) to have an all Russian line of ......

Kitsyn / Prokhorkin / Zykov ?????

We need a Russian stay at homer...get-er done Deano.

lets hope it turns out like kopi falling to 11 because he was from a non-hockey country....................that thread up top is crazy, they were talking about him having to go to the habs, and philly loving him early, you wouldn't think the Russian factor would be in play with a kid playing who has already come across and plays where he does...............at least with a team that had multiple picks like Cbus or Edm., but after thinking about it if DT had taken the sure bets instead of reaching for boyle and tambellini / just saying

Chubby? No

Out of shape with a higher than needed level of body fat? Yes

I am just glad that he didn't insinuate that the kid has a chubby
