Are there any truth to the rumors that the Kings are interested in Tom Wilson (Capitols) and Dubois (Jets.) If true I don't see how the Kings could afford one or both when they only have about 8 mill in cap space., have to bring a goaltender in. They would would have to shed contracts to make room.

Rumors about the Kings are rarely true.

The obvious issue is goaltending but when Blake talks to another GM , he is going to get the full rundown on the other teams roster, pre-draft.
Eg. Blake calls about Helley , sidebars on other players, PLD.
It goes nowhere and the Jets GM leaks it for his own purposes.
Blake is smartly keeping things quiet as we saw with Gav pre-extension.

I know we're having fun with the rumors and the idea of the Kings landing a big name but this is such a real possibility.

If I'm the Jets GM I would CERTAINLY be leaking that other teams besides the Habs are calling about PLD. Try to drive as much interest as possible so you get the maximum return.

I do sometimes wonder how much cloak & dagger type stuff happens with these kinds of things. Even thinking about NHL Insiders & how they get their info. Who knows maybe Jets GM Cheveldayoff leaks this to Friedman and says "Hey buddy, can you tweet out that there's a serious link between PLD and LA?? Next time we have a trade / big signing to announce I'll shoot you a text 30 mins before it goes though" *winks*

And the hockey world just runs with it because we're obsessed and like to have fun with any rumor/bit of information we can get.

Blake calls & asks prices a lot. Will it get done? Probably not.

PLD around 8 is doable if Arvidsson & Iafallo go out. Some salary is going to go out probably before the start of next season anyways.

Goal would be nice to upgrade, but Pheonix is better than what they started with last year. Pick up a backup & trade for a goalie at deadline is another possibility. Maybe they go all in on a Hellebuyck, but I'm a little risk adverse to big goalie contracts right now. Wonder if Blake feels the same.

PLD, I wouldn't want him on the team. He is a drama queen and doesn't live up to contract. I bet if the Kings got him, after a year he will be demanding a trade out of town. That is is his history. and past behavior determines future behavior.

Won't comment on specific rumors, but I do feel another big trade needs to happen. We don't have the horses to go deep in the playoffs. If the team is serious about a run, they will need more than a starting goalie. Big bodied top 6 and another D with size would help immensely.

They need a Brown or Richards that will throw that first hit & drag the team into a fight.

You tube is lit up with PLD going to Kings Rumors. Player involve going to the Jets. QB, Turkot, Vilardi and draft picks. Jets can keep him as far as I am concerned. Kings need to resign Vilardi and settle on what they are going to do about signing another goaltender.

Jets fan coming in peace. So much smoke between the two teams. I don’t understand the need for PLD but EF from 32 Thoughts really seems to be pushing that narrative.

Helle w/retention this year from the Jets side makes more sense IMO especially given the Jets will have a surplus of cap available with the big $$$ contracts heading out the door.

Hellebuyck isn't really affordable at his 9.5M ask going forward after the year. After the money tied up in goal last year, going young, inexpensive is probably the way to go.

Starting the year with Pheonix is a lot better than what the King's started last year.

In the playoffs, Lizotte after battling all year got run. Then the King's had a giant hole in their 3C. King's have players they can stick there, but none are ready to defend against top6 lines in the playoffs.

Kopi is starting to slow down as well. Adding an additional center is a major need for the playoffs now & in the future.

PLD is only 24, I guess age wise it will make sense. Player wise he looks like a head case wanting out of 2 teams already and he is not a 1C to replace Kopi. Kopitar is 37 and probably it's his last year but I wouldn't mind him coming back on a cheaper contract. 1 year deals.

I would be more interested in Lowry though or Miles Wood from NJ.
Rumors now say that Tom Wilson is not available.

Kopitar, 36
Danault, 30
Luc-Dubois, 25
Byfield, 21

Those would be your organizational centers and their ages this coming season. Each one at a different stage of their career.

In theory it makes a lot of sense age-wise.

Over time PLD and QB transition to the top two center positions, while Kopitar and Danault transition to the bottom 2 center positions in the coming years.

No on PLD.
But for S&Gs, the only way i'd take him is if you could do it while keeping the GV, QB & Clarke young core and extending PLD to a $7-8M/year deal. That plus Kempe & Fiala is a good young skilled group to build your team around. Ulimtimately i think the PLD cost (trade package and/or new contract) is not worth it at all imo.

no pld. how about lowery? the guy is a defensive beast and a good citizen.
how about jerry korab?
i guess they call it the silly season for a reason...

The only untouchables on the Kings are Vilardi and Clarke. They are going to be elite players. If either of those get moved it will be the worst trade in modern day kings history.

If the Kings acquire PLD then QB will be in the package going to the Jets.

Then the Kings will not be trading for PLD.
Well I hope not. PLD has no loyalty and is a problem child. He has forced a trade from two teams now and anyone that thinks he wouldn't do the same to the Kings is not dealing with reality. A contract doesn't anything to PLD. Once he is tired of a team which is on the second year he calls in for a trade.

While a little part of me is paranoid Blake will do something stupid, I don’t think there’s any realistic possibility a 20-year-old Byfield who started to show considerable progress will be included for a middling 2nd-line center.
