LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings – the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions – have agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Brayden McNabb on a two-year contract and restricted free agent left wing Andy Andreoff on a one-year contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Don't have specifics on $$$ as of yet.

The cup is ours!

:win:

Wait, the cups is ours.

The qualifying offer for Andreoff was $605,000, for McNabb $787,500. I assume both will be at or near that mark (hopefully a little less for McNabb if the Kings made one or both of his years 1 way).

Lombardi can also start cracking on extension negotiations with Williams, Stoll, Martinez (all 2015 UFAs) and Muzzin (RFA). Other RFAs in 2015 include Toffoli, Pearson, Clifford, Nolan, Jones, Shore, Dowd, Weal, Bodnarchuk and LoVerde.

Lot of work ahead for Deano.

I don't know how many of you guys read the article, but apparently, McNabb is going to be given every opportunity to be on the 2nd pairing with Voynov. I like that idea quite a bit. Sure, some growing pains for sure, but he's definitely got potential. So, if that pans out, that'll leave Amart, Greene and Regher as our 3rd pairing options.

I'm bettin' RR starts out the season sitting if McNabb sticks as our 2nd pairing.

It will be interesting to see if Dwight King is singed pretty soon. Since Lombardi now knows exactly how much cap space he'll have. Getting McNabb at 650k is nice! Especially considering I think his previous cap hit was something like 925k. Every bit counts.

I think Koptiar's extension will be the biggest talking point next summer and possible deal. Don't even let him even get close to free agency! Once we know what his cap hit will be, then we can starting figuring everyone else out.

I'm really looking forward to see how he fares. And I'd like to think he'll get every chance to show that. However, a couple other things that article said was that Hoven felt that McNabb would platoon the spot and if he'd not 'earned' it by Jan, then Lombardi would be looking to make a trade for a shutdown D again. That isn't enough time esp for a very young D with limited NHL experience Given (below) ow highly they think of McNabb and his potential future, I guess that means RR or MG would be moving. They have put stock in McNabb's future here and the other 4 wouldn't be going...

High praise from the Kings for McNabb:

As mentioned when we first broke that story, the Kings view him as the best defenseman not playing in the NHL over the past two seasons.

Glad to see both signed, I'm sure for a reasonable price. I guess still no King signing/trade yet...

I seriously, knowledgeably, and sincerely hope Dwight King stays with the Los Angeles Kings, to the point the franchise doesn't become the Cleveland Browns of the NHL.

Back on topic, it looks like the blue line will have an smoother transition phase than I think.

I hope they are right. They were right about Gaborik!

I understand that King has some value, but losing him isn't going to be as significant as you make it out to be. If Richards centers our 2nd line, King would have been our 4th line forward or a HS, so, it really isn't THAT big of a deal.

I'm fairly certain that Sutter would have made many other players a healthy scratch before even getting to Dwight King. He's a coach's favorite in that he does everything asked of him.

Are we forgetting the players the Kings had at LW who tried to play that role and failed miserably? Y'know, guys like Kyle Calder and Ethan Moreau. While I think King can be a better player, I don't think he's easily replaceable, least not yet. Not until someone emerges who can do a better job than him.

Hey, show me a lineup with Richards as our 2C and King as our 3LW. I just don't see it.

Just out of curiosity, where does King play with Richards as our 2C?

He'll more than likely be playing alongside Jarett Stoll as he usually tends to do. Either a support scoring role if they use Justin Williams like in the playoffs, or a shutdown unit if they use Trevor Lewis like usual.

Put it this way, I think Sutter would scratch Kyle Clifford, Jordan Nolan, and Trevor Lewis before he even started thinking about Dwight King. It's played out that way many times in the past and I don't see that changing at all.

Why does Richards have to be the 2nd C? He could be 3rd. But here's a stab at the scenario you are asking for (and we saw this in the playoffs, like in OT in Game 5):

Gaborik-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Richards-Carter
King-Stoll-Williams
Clifford-Lewis-Toffoli

However, I think to start the season we'll see Carter centering Pearson and Toffoli, Richards up with King and Williams, and Stoll between Clifford and Lewis.
