Isn't he more banged up than the Kings were letting on?

“I tore my MCL to start the season in August there, and then I got an appendectomy done in mid-November, so it was two different ones,†Vilardi told PHT, which had wandered over so he’d have somebody to speak with

Thought Hoven said something about him being out a couple of months (late August) in relation to his "not a big deal" injury that kept him out of the prospect camp.

I'm aware of what happened to him eight months ago. I'm talking about the present as it relates to him having a great camp and making the team. Harder to do if he is hurt throughout the summer.

Oh yeah. I'd have ZERO problem with him getting the requisite 9 games.

absolutely, I think they need to do that. You see how he fits/adjusts to the pro game. I really like this kid, and think he has all the tools. Skating can be improved with a coach, if necessary. But the rest, the skill, the drive, the IQ, all of it, that's huge for the Kings.
He gets his feet wet and goes back to Canada. He's about to turn 18 and next year, he will be ready to come up.

The MCL healed but the appendectomy was the bigger issue... from what I could gather, it actually burst which caused tons of fatigue latter in the season.... really surprised the kid was as productive after those injuries but lucky for us he fell.....

As for him making the team.... well I'll stick to what I predicted with Amadio joining first this season and Vilardi given the year to improve his overall skill set then debut next season....

I think the only way he'd get his 9 games is if there were injuries to start the year which isn't out of the realm of possibility. I'd be happy with 9 games just to see how he handles it and then send him back to Windsor. I don't think that'll happen, but I do think he'll get a very long look in camp.

He skipped most lower body testing at the draft combine because of a lingering issue, hip maybe? It was posted here somewhere.

Said he it wasn't due to being hurt, said he was 'tired', skipped lower body due to soreness in hip/back

Report from the combine

Vilardi, 17, said he isn't injured, just tired after a long season. He had 61 points (29 goals, 32 assists) in 49 regular-season games and six points (two goals, four assists) in seven Ontario Hockey League playoff games. At the Memorial Cup he had seven points, all assists, in four games.

Then he was still "tired" for development camp?

I was joking earlier, but that Allison comparison is spot on. Allison was "tired" for like three years.

I totally thought about Eric Daze when I read he skipped lower body due to back soreness since he is a tall kid with skating concerns. Different players so I wouldn't compare styles.

I'm really glad we were able to snag this kid, but I won't get my hopes up too much like I did with Kempe.

He's done WAAAAAAAAAY more than Kempe ever has. Led the Spitfires in scoring in the regular season and playoffs en route to a Memorial Cup. He was a consensus top 5 pick before falling. If he continues his current trajectory he'll be an absolute stud.

I thought I had mono once for entire year. It turns out I was just really bored.

I hope he doesn't turn into Alexandr Svitov. I would love nothing more than to have two Kopitars (the ones in 2012 and 2014)

haha I didn't mean to lead on as a comparison of skills (was kind of being sarcastic), sorry. Was just thinking how Svitov was almost exactly at the same height and weight as Vilardi is.

Two Kopitars...oh yes... The endless board cycling perimeter play... Can't wait.

Let's hope he's not exactly like Kopitar in style lol.

.. If we were lucking enough to have Vilardi turn into another Kopitar, with the exact style of play and all...it would likely mean we would be entering another run as cup contenders
