That's awesome Markus Phillips survived the first 2 cuts and since there are only 7 defensemen left, must have made the team....impressive, as he is only 1 of 2 from the OHL in the D corps. The other being Evan Bouchard, who was a top 10 pick in the recent draft by Edmonton....Goalie Matt Villalta was cut, however...I was reading somewhere that while Phillips offensive numbers have gone down some, he has become an excellent, all around defenseman...I recall in his draft year, there were rumblings going into his draft yr that he may be a first rounder. So hopefully, the Kings sign him and he goes to Ontario AHL next year....and Brickley or Clague make the Kings and Markus takes a spot. Still have hopes for Austin Strand, who is now on the Reign, with Brickley and Walker up. Strand is a rare RHD too.

I'm also glad to see Phillips there, it's a real good sign, as I was pretty stoked about the pick, only to have him stumble a bit after. I think he had a rough camp or something? Forget. But yeah all reports are positive, he's rounding out his game even further, and having a good skater who can do it all is pretty solid.

I like the way Strand looks on the ice. He's only played 2 AHL games now, but he does look to have some poise out there. He reminds me, in at least in appearance of a young Rob Blake. Needs to get stronger and of course a lot more experience, but I still see something early on in his game to like vs say Reddekopp, who really is an ECHL player. As for Phillips, making Team Canada as a 4th round pick is no small feat, and he just may have earned himself a contract now.
