Shore at #1 due to readiness to compete at the NHL level and secure a roster spot.

to me that is what it is about, that is what it is always about. everything else is just noise until the prospects are ready to make the jump

from there i think it is obvious with Forbort, Weal and Mersch in close pursuit. I expect all three to get at least a call up this upcoming season, if not extended stays.

beyond them it's a crap shoot, but i think Gravel will arrive sooner than expected. his end of season reviews from the staff are very encouraging.

Zykov and kempe right now are sexy picks, but imo they still have a lot to prove at the AHL level before they are NHL ready

Kempe. The way he continued to improve his play in the playoffs says a lot about him. Scored in the clinching game of every series. He's for real. Reminds me of Jeff Carter.

Add Bartosak

boy that's a weak crop to what i've been use to the past few years
Scary indeed. Luckily we still have a solid on ice product.

My top 6

1. Jordan Weal (2nd line center/wing)
2. Nick Shore (3rd/4th line center)
3. Derek Forbort (bottom pairing defenseman)
4. Adrian Kempe (3rd line winger)
5. Michael Mersch (3rd line winger/PP specialist)
6. Patrik Bartosak (back-up)

No real high end talent in there but some serviceable players hopefully.

My ranking on level of interest:

Kempe
Weal
Mersch
Zykov
Brodzinski
Forbort
Gravel
Cernak
Lintuniemi
Dergachyov

Adrian Kempe.

He's still 18. 6'3" 195 (he's not 6'1", he's an inch taller than Dowd and Dowd is 6'2") and still growing...has there ever been an 18 year old that scored 8 AHL Playoff goals? And he didn't have a lot of ice time in the earlier games and was even scratched once. Pretty impressive...especially since he only had 3 AHL games before the playoffs.

Yup, and how he said something to the effect of he had never worked as hard as he did at his first AHL practice/skate. The guy is a big ball of clay so for things to be going so well BEFORE our development team gets a real hold of him is why I have him so high, oozing potential. Biggest shot at a top-sixer in our system imho.

I know it's basically just echoing what other people have said so far, but I think Kempe has the potential to be an absolute monster if he develops properly and stays on the same track.

Fingers crossed.

I believe he was scratched twice.

I dont think many 18 year olds will get the opportunity to play 17 playoff games in the AHL at age 18. Hence why there are not many examples.

Mark Scheifele scored just 1 assist in 10 playoff games in 11-12 (scratched a few times).
Cody Hodgson scored 2 goals, 6pts in 11 playoff games in 08-09 (played half the games).
John Carlson (yeah a D but still) scored 2 goals, 3pts in 16 games in 08-09 (missed 5 games).

Just some other examples.

So..... is Kempe slated to be our future #3 center? Seriously, what's his future role & when will he be fulfilling that role?

Thanks!!!

Well they were 19.

I have watched some stuff of Kempe in the SHL this year. I was overly impressed/surprised he was able to net 8 goals with the Monarchs.

All of those guys were in 18 year old seasons. They fact that they were born a couple months earlier than Kempe is irrelevant. They were all in the same developmental season.

Nonsense.

Developmental season is irrelevant. Age is relevant.

Each of the players Holden mentioned were 4-6 months older than Kempe at the same time they were in the playoffs in the AHL. That is not a huge difference, certainly not enough to cast the developmental season as 'irrelevant.'

The ''question'' was 18 years olds. If it was draft year, than I would not have said, that there wouldnt be too many examples. So than I also should not be corrected.
